Ellana Minerals is taking mineral makeup to a whole new level!

They have recently relaunched and have revamped the whole brand! And I couldn't be happier! It's high time more people recognize what a great brand Ellana is! They have a fabulous product line that rivals foreign makeup brands. Yes, I said it. I did because I have tried their products for years and can attest how effective it is!

Curious what's up for 2013, beauty department-wise?

Here's a few I've seen both on Spring/Summer 2013 fashion and beauty trends and some that's making it's way from the past few months.

Long luscious lashes - lash extension salons will love this new trend and so do you, I promise. Nothing like long lashes to give that quick perk-me-up look. Curled and columized lashes do help enhance anybody's features and immediately draw positive attention. i-Lash salon so far is the only lash extenstion salon I've tried and they have great service. Can't commit? go for Majolica Majorca Lash King for bold lashes. Seriously, that mascara is the bomb!

Braids - one trend that Iwould not be able to follow unless I get someone do this for me. Seen on many fashion runways, the Katniss Everdeen hair trend is not wanning one bit. So, go on youtube and practice the fishtail, french or whatever braid that you want to perfect. Keep your hair in tip top shape with Syoss Professional Performance Repair Therapy. Braids can be a bit harsh on the hair, you know.

Strong brows - Brooklyn Shield's will be happy to hear this. I love that strong brows are in. But try toning down the colors when doing strong brows. ontouring best pair strong brows. Define your eyes, cheeks and nose. Use pencil liner instead of gel or eyeliner for a softer touch.

Vintage-y hair - think volume and curls. Classic hair look that makes you think of Norma Jean Baker and Katherine Hepburn. Nothing like short bangs or cropped up 'do. More on waves and natural allure. So, whip out those roller and silk night cap and wake up to wavy locks everyday! I love using Bounce Whip Mousse from L'oreal Professionel. It's the best!

Metallic Eyes - a trend I'm dying to try out again. Been pretty tamed for the past year and I think with the economy booming, designers and brands aren't afraid to use colors and metallic is one of it. With lots of mineral makeup made from Ellana Minerals, Krave Minerals and Virginia Olsen, creating this look is easy!

Nude Nail Polishes - Something's got to give this season, and nails have taken the bullet. Taupe, pail pink, tans will be the best choices for this season. No worries, nude nails actually exudes elegance and class. Something I think many of us, working women will appreciate. I like Caronia's Touch of Beige and Touch of Tan (I know many who will agree with me on this!).

Bright Red Lips - Yes, no need to put those holiday red lips to rest. You can still whip them out from time to time this season MAC Red and Lady Danger are a good choice. My favorite? Chanel Rouge Allure in Passion.

Deep Side Part hair - a carry on of the strong brows look. Sleek hair pairs well with the dimension of strong brows. Structured is the key for the season and one of the best way to achieve it is through this kind of hair look. Don't forget to apply a bit of Kerastase Elixir Ultime for a sleeker and shiny hair. On a budget, Snoe Beauty Hair Glaze will do!

Matte Lips - a trend that will never waiver. Why not? It's the best lippies there is. No matter how drying some matte lipstick formulas are, it still gives that flattering look, especially for pouty lips like mine. Go for the Shu Uemura Matte Rouge Deluxe or Bobbi Brown Matte Lipsticks. I just love these, too. Of course, no need to mention MAC's Ruby Woo.

I'm glad I'm not seeing a lot of those dewy finish makeup look and that trends now play on our features than entirely change them.

What are you excited about for this year's beauty trend? :)

Some people think that I spend too much time doing my makeup. Especially if I use red lipstick and an eyeliner. But really, I don't. I

Reality:

I've just had way too many practice that I already know what my face needs and and I really have good quality products to help me. :)

Here are a few things to remember or tips that you can try and see how it improves your makeup application.

Use a foundation that doubles as a concealer. This reduces the time in you piling up makeup. You cover your redness, veins and some blemishes without having to use a concealer. I like Ellana Mineral Powder Foundation in Intensive Formula when applied using the wet-brush application covers almost all blemishes, even bumps.

Ellana Mineral Foundation

A cream foundation for dry skin also helps, just dab a bit of finishing powder to set your foundation and it will fade out fine lines and wrinkles that you may have.

Also, use this trick I learned from Max Faxtor Philippines' Chief Makeup Artist, Bobby Carlos. Apply tinted moisturizer on the parts of the face that is red and dark, then set with powder. Redness is usually seen on the forehead and sides of the nose. Dark parts are the found under eye and sides of the mouth. This lessens the time in foundation application but great in evening out the skin tone.

With red lipstick, you might want to stick with matte finishes as this is easier to control compared to moisturizing ones. Also, this doesn't stray easily outside the lines that you don't have much problem with it bleeding or getting caught in your hair and creating streaks. Also, this is easier to tote around at it doesn't soften easily compared to other formulation.

MAC Ruby Woo Red Lipstick

Surprising as it may seem, using a darker blush than you are usually use to is way better to speed things up. Since it is more pigmented, you don't need to pack the color and this stays on better than the lighter blush that you're use to. A little goes a long way and it stays on for quite a while given I have oily skin.

Shu Uemura Blush in P Medium Red 175

Use an eyeliner pencil instead of liquid or gel type should you still be unsure of your lining skill. Although eye pencil are notorious for giving panda eyes and transfer, this is still the easiest product to control. Just make sure that your eyeliner is waterproof.

L'oreal Super Liner Lasting Silky Crayon

Also, don't forget to apply a bit of wash of eye shadow on your eyes, to prevent for liner from transferring to your lids. This also serve as highlight.

these eyeshadow are found in the Beauty Pro Cosmetics Sweet & Smoky Palette

Two eye shadows is all you need for a quick and easy neutral eye makeup. One beige eye shadow that is lighter than your skin tone and one brown eye shadow that 2 to 3 shades darker than your skin tone. You can also use the brown eyeshadow to redefine or color in your brows for a more fixed appearance.

Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara

And of course, curl your lashes to prep it for mascara. If you are completely in a hurry, you do this after when you're at work or school. I promise, no one will be the wiser! Just make sure that it's waterproof for it to last all day on your lashes.

There you have is a few tips and tricks that I hipe will help you in making your life easier when it comes to using/applying makeup.

Always, the best way for things to become easier is to practice. :)

I did a rough face of the day using my pigments from Ellana Minerals and some of my reliable makeups. I didn't actually want to put on makeup that day but when I took another look of my pale dull face, I just had to make time. So I did what I knew best, make sure I had color on my cheeks and lips, applied a bit of bronzer and colors to my eyes.

Everyday I find that applying makeup has been easier and it has already been a part of my daily routine. It's like drinking a cup of coffee or brushing my teeth. It's not that I can't leave without makeup on but I it's more on the act that I feel good whenever I wear it. Being an addict and one that appreciate the use makeup, finding reasons not to use them is quite hard before stepping out of the door. Makeup is a way to express myself, inspire confidence and adds pizzazz to an otherwise ho-hum day.

We may be a few who thinks this way about makeup, that's why I'm glad that with beauty blogging... I meet more and more people (like you) who can relate how I feel about cosmetics.

Products used:
Max Factor Weightless Foundation in Brown Hessian
Ellana Loose Powder Foundation Hazelnut Intensive Blend
ELF Countouring Blush & Bronzing Powder
Model Co. Designer Browz Kit in medium

For the Eyes:
Ellana Eye Primer
Ellana Multipurpose Powder in Dainty
Ellana Multipurpose Powder in Paradise
Fanny Serrano Gel Liner
Max Factor Lash Extention Effect Mascara

This look is pretty much barely there and would just blend onto my skintone as hour. For days when i know I won't be attending a big party or event, I try tame down my makeup (God knows, how hard that is for me!). So here it's pretty much jusr accentuating and shading. No bright colors whatsoever.

I've recently acquired the whole collection of Honey Bronze from The Body Shop but with the rain and eveything, taking photos of them has been sort of impossible. Now that the sun is shining yet again, I now have a chance to them to you! So excited about this since I'm really a bronzer addict. :)

Today, I get a chance to meet America's Next Top Models Judge and World renowned fashion photographer Nigel Barker and Runway Coach/Diva Extraordinaire Miss J. Alexander. Both of these fashion celebrities were invited for Ayala's Style Origin, a 2 month long event happening all over Ayala Malls that'll showcase the best in the Philippine Fashion Industry and of course guests from abroad and our country.

I simply can't wait I woke up 2 hours earlier than scheduled, so here I am typing away my FOTD. LOL. I find morning events not so different from when I attend afternoons or meet up with friends for lunch or coffee. Except that my eyebags are quite apparent as I get less sleep when events are scheduled before lunch time.
I'm fighting a yawn as I write... ooopps! There it goes! It won!!

Face:
Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation (Warm Beige)
Revlon Beyond Natural Concealer and Highlighter (310)
Ellana Mineral Foundation (French Vanilla)
Maybelline Clear Smooth Blush (Fresh Rose)
MAC Bronzing Powder (Refined Golden)

Eyes:
Urban Decay Naked Palette
Maybelline EyeStudio Gel Liner
Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus Mascara
MAC Eye Khol (Fascinating)
Model Co Eyebrowz Designer Brow Kit (Medium)

Did a sort of bronzy neutral eye makeup to last me the whole day. Nothing too fancy but just something that'll compliment my eyes. :)

Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus really give great results. I love it!

Lips:
Revlon Cream Gloss (Patent Leather Pink)

There you have it, a very simple morning look.

Mantra today is "I'm not sleepy!"

BTW, thanks to everyone who voted for us at the Pond's Flawless White Unbeaten Whitening Challenge! We, Jheng and I, were on the top three finalist along with Sophie Uy and Nikki Tui, Philippine's Top Beauty Bloggers. They bagged the Editor's Choice Award!! We really feel we represented the girls who really want a cheaper alternative whitening product in the contest. Hope you get chance to read our entries!! Again, thank you!!

It's another FOTD! :) I wore this look at the Vector GPS launch. It's a nifty gadget for those who frequently get lost and it's not just for the car since it's portable. It's almost the same size as my Iphone. I'm thinking of getting the BF one for his birthday since he's a guy.... Therefore, hates asking for directions. LOL!

First of, let me just say that I am head over heels over this mineral makeup foundation. Perfect Blend Loose Mineral Concealer & Foundation is on the top of my list when it comes to mineral makeup (although I haven't tried a lot) and I'm glad that it is within my reach as it made and sold here in the Philippines. Oh the joy of accessible makeup!

Mineral Blushes are by far my most favorite type of blush! Why? Not only is it affordable (the most I spent was Php300 or $6) but it's very safe for the skin. I really love love love mineral blush. For most days, it's the one I choose to put on. Whether it be doing the grocery, meeting up for drinks with the girls or for work.

You know how much  I love putting on eyeliner. But the thing about eyeliner especially the gel liner ones that you need to use brush, it's just damn too difficult to clean the brush all the time. Most of the time, I ruin my brushes from cleaning them with the usual dishwashing liquid and water. And when the liner dries up on to the brush, it's so much more tedious to remove it that stains remain and the brush look utterly disgusting.

But since I've been cleaning my eyeliner brushes with the Ellana Oil-Free Brush Cleaner, I find no excuse not to use and even bring my gel liner when i go out of town. Just recently, I got myself a small bottle of this brush cleaning wonder to take it with me to Tagaytay this weekend. It's just so much easier to use eyeliner brush when you know how easy it is to clean it.

For many women out there I know there are some out there that are just living with face powder and lip balm... some are even using the travel-size baby powder. Maybe, it's time for upgrade.

In the beginning, I would always make excuses for just having two makeup products in my vanity and in my makeup bag. Why the hell would I want to put on makeup when I don't even know how to use it? Natural beauty is the best, right?

Stop making excuses! Accept the fact that makeup enhances your feature and reduces your flaws! You'll look a lot better with makeup. Even if you're the prettiest, no pores, no pimples, uber fair girl in the world! And don't go on sour-graping on us who actually could hold an eye pencil. You can, too! :) If you're beauty is natural... I'm sure you've got some natural talents that is beauty-related, too.

That is why I was sooooo excited when I received a letter from Mav, asking me to help her out by recommending what she should get for her first makeup kit!

Hi, Mav!

I'm so happy that you are finally joining the fabulous world of makeup. It really is a wonderful world. Makeup is a vanity but I think of it mainly as confidence booster and worth-watcher. You know, makeup reminds me of my worth... if I can take the time out to apply a nice shade of lipstick, then there is no reason that I can make a fabulous presentation on my project. If my skin so flawless, it's one way to boost myself to finally close a deal for our company. If I'm not worried that my undereyes aren't showing from my lack of sleep, then my people wouldn't think I'm not strong enough to handle them.... Something like that... :)

But buying is not an easy feat. Boy oh boy... it isn't. That's why I want you to read my Guide to Makeup Shopping after reading this post, okay?

Hello, Ladies!!

Another FOTD! This time my skin has chosen to misbehave and I'm getting all sorts of acne, from small ones to cystic ones. But I went to my dermatologist in Skinnovation (Of which Frances of Topaz Horizon's sister-in-law is a partner of), and I asked if I could take Acnetrex again. She advised for me to take it for the next 6 months in pulse method (2 caps for 7 days every month). Wish me well, because this journey will get a lot worst before it gets better.

For now, this is how I look like all made up.. well, not so much since I just used a few products on my face. And like my previous posts, I am still finishing up my ellana eyeshadows.

I used light colors here because this was the day I was going to get my haircut and I didn't want to distract the stylist from making the look that I wanted him to create. Also, I love Twinkle (bright sunny-y gold frost) from Ellana!! :) This shade reminds me of those Korean beauty magazines with all the glow-y sparkly make-ups. Then I complimented it with Siren (a yellow golden brown shimmer) I partnered it with a white eyeliner to make my eye pop a lot more.

I kind of miss my long hair... but not really.

Products used for the face:

VMV Skin Savvy Foundation in Clay
Ellana Perfect Blend Mineral Foundation in Hazelnut Latte
The Body Shop Kiss of Colour Cheek Blush in Vibrant Rose (The Stamp Blush)
The Face Shop Brow Powder Duo in 01
The Body Shop lip Colour in 07
MAC Bronzing Powder in Refined Golden

Products used for the eyes:

Urban Decay Primer Potion in Sin
Ellana Mineral Eyeshadow in Twinkle
Ellana Mineral Eyeshadow in Siren
Maybelline Studio Gel Liner in Brown
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Pencil in Bourbon (brown)
MAC Eye Khol in Fascinating
Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara in Black

The love for makeup and all things beautiful... I guess this will never wan... I will always have this even if I grow old and wrinkly. And I do appreciate that you guys take your time to share this with me. :)

More to come for the coming days!! Right now, need to snuggle in with the BF. :)

much love,
Shen

Another FOTD!

What a rainy week we are having! Getting around has been a little difficult because I hate driving when it rains and and I get a bit more lazier to do things. Sorry for the lack of posts! :) Will try to make it up to do next time!

This is probably one of the simpliest FOTD I've done and many of you may not be impressed at all. I told you on my previous FOTD that I was finishing up the left over products on my ellana pots. This time, I decided to use my favorite purple/violet eye shadows from their collection, Pixie and Laugh. I also added a touch of Belle (a soft shimmery frost pink) and a little of Delicate (a taupe brown frost and a personal favorite).

You know what I noticed? Ellana eyeshadows hardly creases! I forgot how well this eye shadow blends on my lids. It's been so long since I used these eye shadows that I forget how great they are. It definitely lasts a lot longer than the non-mineral I've used.

Of course, I use an eye primer... but then, even with an eye primer such as Urban Decay, Smashbox, Etude House and Too Faced, my eye shadow still creases at the end of the day.

So, yes... I think I'm renewing my relationship with Ellana (and other mineral eye products) from now on. :)

For the eyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion in Sin
Ellana Mineral Eyeshadow in Pixie
Ellana Mineral Eyeshadow in Laugh
Ellana Mineral Eyeshadow in Belle
Ellana Mineral Eyeshadow in Delicate
MAC Penultimate in Rapidblack

For the Face:
PureDerm Magic BB Cream
Ellana Mineral Foundation Perfect Blend in Hazelnut Latte

For the Cheeks:
Mineraux Mineral Blush in Plum
MAC Sculpt and Shape Powder Bone Beige Emphasize

For the Lips:
One Naturals Lip Tune-up Shea Butter Lip Balm

I dream of weekend already. I will be joining a Clean Up at Hamilo Coast. I'm so excited. But the call time is 4 AM!! I do hope I can get up early! Else, I have no choice but stay up all night. LOL!

Til next time, girls!! Gotta catch up on some Zzzz's!!

much love,
Shen
