Lancome Juicy Wear Top Coat Seal and Shine by you.

Ten Reasons why I love Lancome Juicy Wear Top Coat Seal and Shine
  1. The shine and effect it brings to my lip color.
  2. That the shimmer isn't so obvious. My lips don't appear to be a disco ball.
  3. That it is not sticky at all! It's actually very creamy when partnered with a lipstick. While alone, you won't feel you have it on.
  4. It has plumping effect (see photo below) or at least gives the appearance of it.
  5. Available here in the Philippines.
  6. A little goes a long way.
  7. Lasts a long time making the price worth it. I've been using this for months but it looks the same as the first day I used it.
  8. The applicator is slanted making it easier to use even without a lipbrush.
  9. No skin reactions at all. My lips is just loving it.
  10. No funky smell or taste (always a plus for me since I'm scent-sensitive).
And no reason at all not to love Lancome Juicy Wear Top Coat Seal and Shine.

P.S. Thyphoon Ondoy has left our country but it also left us with devastation. On my family's part, they are all safe and sound. My dad and uncle is staying with us until their place is back to certain level of normalcy. The typhoon wrecked everything, our car, the appliances and the furniture. I'm happy that my dad and uncle are okay but I can't help sad for all the memories that was washed away just like that.

MAC Cosmetics remain to be at the top list of my favorite brands. Despite the fact that I try not to, considering that it's very expensive, it provides me with a lot of reasons why I should save a few pretty pennies for it.

Much to my surprise, I never really liked MAC lipsticks before. It made my lips dry and I couldn't stand the taste of it then. I remember when my mom bought me the shades Brave and Skew, I barely used them. It was just for special occasions or when I want something "sosyal" to take out from my purse when I'm out clubbing. But really, it was all a bad experience.

But what made me change my mind and rethink on MAC lipsticks? As my knowledge grew about makeups (i'm not saying I know it all), I realized that I had to give it another chance. My friends who were crazy about them gave me reason enough to try so I did. Since then, I just loved it.

MAC Cosmo by you.

But why Cosmo of all lipsticks from MAC.

I remember when Sophie and Jheng raved about Cosmo and I think at that time Sophie lost her Cosmo lisptick during a shoot or a class. Since then, Cosmo was stored at the back of my mind as one lipstick that I should consider. But every time I look and swatch it during one of my many MAC visits, I can't seem to like it. It was such a blah color for me.

The addict in me finally gave in. Shoot me for being such a shopaholic but I bought Cosmo only out of nothing. No reason at all. Truth be told, it was months before I even used this for the first time. It was just sitting on my stash like a reject from school.

MAC Cosmo snip by you.
snipped from maccosmetics.com (thanks!)

Boy oh boy was I wrong! :) I really really made a serious mistake not buying it sooner or calling it a blah. Cosmo is such an amazing color for my NC30-35 skin. The color has a pink-peach-taupe tone to it that I can't describe. Sometimes it looked peach or pink depending on the lighting. This shade glides on smoothly and its very pigmented.

Really, it's My-Lips-But-Better lipstick!

Enough talk, let the photos speak for itself. :)

So, what do you think? Love it or hate it?

I'm undergoing a personal tragedy right now.

Typhoon Ondoy has been hard to us Filipinos and of all the major typhoons that my family has experienced, this one is the worst hitting our city like a mad man. I currently can't contact my father and tito who has a downe syndrome. Up until now, I don't know what has happened to them and nobody can seem to reach them. I called rescue but now I can't get in their lines. I'm very much worried. I'm praying for their safety and immediate rescue. I am hoping you will also help me pray. Thank you and have a safe weekend.

You simply have to search "Ondoy" and you'll see different pictures showing the wreck he left us.

The Body Shop lip/concealer brush by you.
The Body Shop Lip/Concealer Brush

A fine tapered brush for precise application of lipcolors or concealers.

The Body Shop lip/concealer brush by you.
The Body Shop lip/concealer brush by you.
To be totally honest, I'm not confident using lip brush. I'm very clumsy with it and I always make mistakes especially when I'm applying lipstick on others. Its just really annoying that I can't get the hang of using a lip brush.

The Body Shop lip/concealer brush by you.

Thankfully, I got a chance to try The Body Shop Lip/Concealer Brush. Its made from synthetic fibres since The Body Shop is an advocate against animal cruelty. The Body Shop brushes is one of the best synthetic brushes I've encountered and many of my friends agrees. Their kabukis are fast flying off the shelves. The eye brushes has proven to be the same quality. Best of it all, its easily accessible since The Body Shop(TBS) is almost available in all leading department stores. My favorite includes the one in Greenbelt and Shangri-la Mall.

The Body Shop lip/concealer brush by you.

As provided by TBS, Lip/Concealer Brush indeed provides a precise application of lip colors and concealers. Using this brush gives more control when I apply the lipstick, making it easier for me to outline my lips making it easier to fill it in. I have a wrinkly lips and applying lipsticks with a brush like this is much better in making my lips look smoother.

Another reason why I love this brush is because of how versatile it is. As provided, I can use this as a concealer brush especially when shaping the lips and eyebrows. Another use I find this brush for is for foiling and even applying eyeliners. I can also use this brush in applying eyeshadows near my tearducts or inner portion of my eyelids.

So far, I haven't found a similar brush in my stash which is making me which I have 2 more. :)

I give this brush 3.5 out 5 Kikay Pinay points.

much love,
Shen

My notes:

Hair Styling products and it treats hair? That sounds hair heaven to me. Having had no experience whatsoever in hairstyling since I've been stuck with the same hair style all my life, I coudn't be more happier knowing there is a product out there that can give me a nice volume but without the damaging chemicals. Rather, Texture Expert is also a hair treatment that penetrates the fibre of the hairs to make it stronger and look healthier.

I am personally in love with the Smoothe Ultime which maintains the softness of my very thick hair but at the same time has UV filter to protect it against the sun and infuses vitamin E for added healthy-looking shine. I apply it right after I shake off excess water after shower and let it airdry. I also see to it that my stylist uses the same prior to blow-drying my hair on special occassions. I top it of with Perfect Shimmer to provide me that hair commercial feel. Because of my heavily treated hair, I stray away from using products that are heavy but I found this line to be just the right amount of consistency to the point that its lightweight.

This line is only available at selcted Salons. Ask the advice of your stylist for the best Texture Expert product for you.

much love, Shen

The Echo, a Philippine remake of the movie "Sigaw" is showing here in the Philippines

Roy Lee a known director for his adaption of horror asian movies like The Grudge and Ring series have found Sigaw of Yam Laranas interesting to make an American version but with an added twist to suite the international audience. I am quite proud that this remake because it still has a lot of the original plot. Iza Calzado will also be starring as the character she played in Sigaw.

I have yet to test this product. But I would just like to show you guys what the BF got me for my birthday. Its not much since he's saving up for something we will be needing soon but it was the best gift anyone could give since he knows how much I've been wanting it but just couldn't justify the reason the need for another undereye concealer.

I'm glad I do have this now because I don't have this shade in any of my stash. And it's actually cheaper compared to another high-end brand with a similar color and the bonus is that this has lightening and healing properties as well.

I'll be partnering this with my Ellana Awake Mineral concealer to set it.

RR WhiteForest standee by you.

Love at first bite. It was exactly what I felt when I tasted the New White Forrest Cake of Red Ribbon. It was neither too sweet nor too filling but enough to give you that burst of happiness in every bite.

The three main ingredients makes one of my favorite cake at the moment, red juicy maraschino cherries, soft white chiffon that melt in mouth and the delectable white chocolate shavings on every layer and surrounding the entire cake.

Inspired by the Black Forest cake, the White counterpart is quite distinct and could stand on it own because of

A definite surprise to your family when you bring this home for dessert.

Coffee lover? The Red Ribbon Cake is best served with a hot cup of your favorite joe. A good YumYum to enjoy during this cold weather.

The next day, I got to enjoy once again the White Forest Cake. I didn't even feel the earthquake as I finish up a slice as the rain pours heavily outside.

pink manila button down blue dress by you.

Dresses became my fashion favorite when Gossip Girl became popular in the last 2 years. However, it is not merely on the attempt of looking like Blair Waldorf do I wear dresses.

Upon doning the semi-short statement pieces, I realized how flattering dresses are to my figure and its ability to camouflage my burgeoning belly and arms. To achieve this though, I must be careful in choosing which dress to buy. Believe me, there are dresses that makes me scream because my overloaded figure is showing.

Dresses makes me feel more feminine. When I'm in a dress, I pay more attention on how I act towards people and I seem to be more polite and even-tempered.

If indeed fashion changes a person, this might be what they were talking about.

This dress I bought for a friend's party but was unable to go to due to the bad weather. I like how it fits my 110 going to 130 lbs body. Although I had to double tape the upper portion on the button down since it opens up due to my 36C chest. It's just in bad taste when your boobies are peeking so use a double tape all the time just in case.

In the photo, I wore the following:
Blue button down dress & belt from Pink Manila (P600/$12)
Gunmetal hobo bag from HDY (2 for P850/$17)
White summer sandals from People are People (P999/$20)
Accessories are made by yours truly
Egyptian Queen Wrap Bracelet (P250/$5)
Y pink necklace (P200/$4)
*Thanks to Jo-An for correcting me

Pink Manila has been my go-to for nice dresses. I would always check out their store inside Fashion Village at Tiendesitas because it is nearest my place. It's extremely affordable and their clothes are truly well-made. If I want something that is up to date fashion piece but got no moolah to spend, I'll definitely check out Pink Manila. Best thing is, it's made in the Philippines.
There are more stores that I find quality buys without the high price tags. But more on those in later posts.

Pink Manila is available at The Ramp, Crossings Department Stores, Greenhills and Tiendesitas.

much love,
Shen

Another week yet again? Time flies by so fast, I can't catch up.
This is my birthday week! I'm turning 26 years old tomorrow! I'm old! I know I promised a contest but I'm still rounding up the prices. It will be a sort of surprise. I will announce mechanics tomorrow. I should be excited for my birthday but this is the loneliest birthday. I never had a birthday without my mom with me and I'm just not use it. She ,not waking me up with her greetings and kisses would be the worst thing ever. If you still have your mom with you, don't ever take her for granted. I did my best not to but I still think that time was cut too short for us. There was so much more that my mom and I could have shared together, not just occassions like this. On top of that, I am having hormonal breakouts. But I think it has to do more with a certain product I used. Bugger...
But enough with that... I still have a day before I have to deal with all that.
Now, I'll be showing you one of MAC's limited edition brushes that has made its way into my top must-have brush list.
MAC 131 by you.
I got the MAC 131 Limited Edition brush from the Colour Craft Collection at MAC counter in Rustan's Shangri-la. I can't member the price but that's okay since I don't want to be reminded on how expensive MAC brushes are. Expensive or not, MAC brushes are known for their quality. Even with the hiked prices here in the Philippines, MAC brushes are still being bought by makeup connoisseurs here. MAC is definitely a go-to for the best brushes.
MAC 131 by you.
MAC 131 Duo Fiber Blush/Powder Brush
A flat, tapered face brush featuring a combination of short, natural fibres and longer synthetic fibres making it ideal for the highlighting/contouring of Mineralize Skinfinish and all powder products.
Price: $40.00USD

MAC 131 by you.
As a blush or powder brush, this works beautifully especially when you want more control with the blushes that are pigmented like your regular mineral blushes, mineralized skinfinishes, mineralized blushes and pigmented blushes like Artdeco blushes. I also use this to set my makeup with my translucent finishing powder. Cream blushes are always best applied with duo fiber brush in my opinion.
I find ways to maximize the use of this brush. As expected, I tried it with many of my liquid foundations like my Alison Rafaele Reality Base Foundation, Maybelline ClearSmooth Mineral Liquid Foundation, Makeup Forever HD Foundation, Revlon Colorstay Mineral Mousse and MAC Studio Fix Foundation. All provided me with a medium to heavy coverage.
MAC 131 allows me more control when applied my foundation. I was able to apply foundation all over my face and neck, even at the parts hard to reach like the corners of the nose and around the eye area. Although the brush is a bit "open", it functions like a liquid foundation brush but less denser. You can still stipple your foundation for that airbrush look but could still be precise on the application front.
If MAC 187 and MAC 190 had a baby, they would come up with the MAC 131. Not quite MAC 187 that we love and adore. Not quite 190 that we are used to from the back in the day and still use up till the present. The MAC 131 is quite the hybrid but not offering the same results as those two mentioned. I find that MAC 131 gives a slower pace in applying the liquid foundation compared to my 187 and 190.
MAC 131 as excepted is very soft with no prickly feel. I guess that's normal already for duo fiber brushes. I have yet to encounter a dual fiber brush that is harsh on the skin. Even my MAC 187 dupe is very soft. The synthetic hair as provided to be economical since there is less products wasted.
What I haven't use this brush for is contouring. I regret that I haven't prior to this review but from the looks of this brush, this seem to be a running candidate for that. Especially on the forehead area, which I always find hard to contour using any kind of brush. You may also experiment in cream contouring with this brush since duo fiber brush are great with cream and gel formulations.
As per tradition, here are some photos for your perusal.

much love,
Shen

P.S. I use Dr. Bronner's Liquid Castile Soap (review found here) or BareNatural's Brush Shampoo (review coming soon) to clean my brushes. I wash my personal brushes every week while those I use on my clients, I clean right after I use them.
