New Year, New Camera | Nikon D5100

After seeing for how many months Dixie's been struggling, I finally got myself a new camera! :) Thanks to the good folks at PixelPro, I acquired the new Nikon D5100. The younger, more modern, sleeker sister of Dixie (Nikon D5000) does a lot of things and deliver better photos.

I've always been partial to Nikon, thanks to two beauty bloggers (Sophie and Phoebe) who introduced it to me three or so years ago. Compared to other dSLRs, I find Nikon easier to use and
produce, vibrant, true-to-life photos. Good thing PixelPro carries everything Nikon. I got my Dixie from them 2 years ago at their Greenhills branch. I also got my ultimate investment lens from them, too. That's why I can provide you, dear ladies, great photos that you can enjoy whenever you visit this blog.

But taking photos is not an easy task. There's the lightning condition and stability of the product you're shooting. Creativity and technical skills are definitely involved. Two things I can't boast I have, although I know I'm getting there. That's why I got a better camera in order to hone my skills. But I wasn't ready for a full fledged full frame just yet. I was quite happy with semi-dSLR that's got lots of nifty and useful.

That's exactly what Nikon D5100 is!

A camera that is familiar to me but has the great quality of my utmost dream DSLR, Nikon D7000.
  • 16megapixels sensor - same at Nikon D7000!
  • Nikon EXPEED 2 image processing technology
  • Dust Reduction System
  • Durable shutter mechanism (tested to 100,000 cycles)
  • Accepts Nikon F-mount lenses (with 1.5x FOV multiplier)
  • MPEG-4 (H.264) Full HD (1920x1080) video at 24, 25, or 30fps; 720p and 480p options also available
  • Live View Mode uses the LCD as the viewfinder for framing images/movies
  • Continuous drive at 4fps with dynamic buffer
  • Fast 11-point AF System with robust modes including 3D Tracking
  • 3.0-inch "Vari-Angle" color LCD with 921,000 pixels and 100% frame coverage
  • ISO sensitivity from 100 to 6400; 12,800 and 25,600 available with ISO expansion
  • Exposure compensation: ±5 EV in 1/3 or 1/2 EV steps
  • Noise Reduction circuitry for long exposures
  • High ISO Noise Reduction
  • SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card storage (Eye-Fi compatible)
  • HDMI High Definition output as well as standard NTSC and PAL video output
  • Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) compliant
  • High-capacity EN-EL14 battery and compact AC Charger (up to shots on a single charge)
  • Optional accessories, like the new ME-1 stereo Microphone

Now ain't that a lot of photographer jargon that even I can't understand. :) But basically, this camera is great for taking product shots, outfit shots and to lug around events.

The swivel or vari-angle screen is a lot more favorable than what Dixie had before. The Nikon5100 allows me too shoot from different angles, high or low, without the strain. Great for taking products and when going events.
Since it's an  HD video cam, vlogging is also possible! :)

Buttons are better placed and switching from camera to video is easier. Although the <i>Menu button should have been placed lower for easier access.

Since all control are on theright side, your left hand can better carry the weight of the camera.
And who wouldn't like the bigger and brighter screen.
This camera also is a lot lighter that Dixie, a definite plus for my neck and shoulders

Since it's it is smaller compared to it D5000 predecessor, my small hands have better grip on it, making it easy to take time shoooting. Less stress on my hands, better pictures taken.

It also has HDMI output that allows me to put an instant show from my camera to my flat screen Sanyo TV.

Although a small part of me wishes that it has multiple card slots, this is still the best camera for a blogger like me. It's complicated enough to give quality photos yet easy enough to handle for a semi-pro like me.

To share you physical comparison of both Nikon D51000 and D5000, take a look at the photos below.

What a beauty, don't you agree? Just right for a beauty blogger like me! :)

So if you're a newbie blogger or one that's looking for an upgrade from your point-and-shoot, get your hands on Nikon D5100. And get it at PixelPro!

Now... for accessories. I'm loving the Hellolulu camera bags and straps I saw at the new Henry's Professional store at 3F New Glorietta.

Pixel Pro is also located at SM Megall, Cyberzone area and Greenhills Viramall area (where the computer stuff are located). They accept credit cards (I got mine at installment).

looking at your Dixie made me missed my Niki (nikon d5000). it took me a year before she was replaced with Red ( a Canon 650D) which I just purchased just recently. I was also eyeing for the D5100 but then, it doesn't have an auto-focus motor and I don't want to purchase more expensive lenses. :) would you mind sharing your most trusted lenses? btw, i always thought you were using a d90 for your photos. :)

Shen I also got a new camera for the new year. It's Canon EOS M. You can view it over at my blog! I don't have a name yet for my camera, do you think I should give her one?
