Kiehl's recently challenged me to change my skin with their #ChangeYourSkin campaign. It's one of their efforts to encourage women and men to take a closer look at their skin and see what it truly needs. So one fine morning, amidst celebrities and A-Listers by the likes of Raymond Gutierrez and his posse, I sat with one of Kiehl's consultant to take that step in facing what skin truly craves for.

Now, as a beauty blogger and one who practically lives and breathes products, I already have an idea the real state of my skin - oily, prone to acne and enlarged pores. I have a skin that could rival a boy on the verge of his puberty, sometimes it's worst. The tiny skin gauge strip Kiehl's use doesn't need to tell me that...

Then it got me thinking that I'm not most like my peers. Filipinos are known to self-medicate (thanks to the lack of free health-insurance. Phil. Gov.'t, wakeup!) and that applies to their skincare needs too. Maybe that's one reason why we bloggers became popular, we provide real recommendations without you having to pay for it! I tip my virtual hat to you, fellow bloggers!

We (and yes, I include myself int his bunch), tend to believe TV ads, billboards or still adhere to skincare superstitions just so we don't have to consult a dermatologist or talked out of our wallets by the sales attendants at the nearby health and beauty store. Which obviously result to more damage to our skin! Que horror!

Kiehl's wanted to change that. They want you do do the same thing I did, sit in with one of their peeps and talk about your skincare concern. They have all the cool knowledge and they won't let buy anythingyour skin doesn't need. Rather they will even provide you with samplers of products they recommend! And these aren't the puny ones that would put shame to a sachet-maker. The samples you'll get will alsts you 28 days! Good enough time for you see results and help you decide if you want to commit to a full-size bottle!

My consultation was right on point! My analyst was brilliant! He recommended a few products from Rare Earth to the Calendula line to help combat my incessant oiliness. No to heavy moisturizers, serums and such for this acneic skin. Though I felt bad because I loved the Midnight Recovery Concentrate Serum. I also wanted to try the Clearly Corrective serum. But I must follow Kiehl's expert advice and just address the changes my skin needs! My skin unfortunately can't follow the beauty trend and I have to accept that because in the end, I'll reap the benefits of getting that clear skin by using only the products that are right for me. Phew! That was a long sentence! A sentence needed to be said nonetheless! So bear with me.

So as soon as this storm let up, I suggest you visit Kiehl's and #changeyourskin.

It's been awhile since I really dolled up.

Since I had baby Claud, I barely had time to put on makeup on. Taking care of her is all I wanted to do from the moment she opens her eyes in the morning to the minute she closes them at night. I'm a lucky mom though because my baby is easily content. That's why I allow myself an hour or two sometimes to attend events here and there and to write here on my blog.

And when I received the invite to Pond's Beautiful Story event, I took this chance to try to glam myself up. Well just a little bit. So in between breastfeeding and rocking baby Claud to sleep, I started to spruce up.  I missed this! Don't get me wrong, I love motherhood but it really does take so much of my time. So getting to play with my makeup again was such a sweet breather. Thank God, our baby Claud wasn't so fussy.

So here's my very first Face of the Day as a Mom! :)

Moms, they take on a lot and aside from birthdays and Christmas, they don't get so much attention from us. Mother's Day resolves that. A special day just for them. I may not have my mom with me but that doesn't mean I can't celebrate Mother's Day especially when I have friends who've been blessed to become Mommies this year!

I've compiled a few beauty products that I think the dearest moms would love to receive this Mother's Day. A few that I think my own mom would love as well as products that new moms wouldn't mind having. Read below and see what your mom might fancy.

Tonight, I begin yet again another Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Challenge and share with you how it works.

My skin current state:
Oily Skin (more on the T-zone and Chin area)
Have certain breakouts on the forehead, chin and cheeks
Sullen puffy eyes

Current skin care:
Kiehl's Blue Astringent Herbal Lotion
Kiehl's Blue Herbal Spot Treatment (for pimple breakouts)
Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily UV Defense (SPF 50 PA+++ UVA)
Kiehl's Rare Deep Pore Cleansing Masque
Kiehl's Midnigh Recovery Concentrate
Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Eye

I use the following skin care to address my skin's oiliness and breakouts. But I know I can't leave off applying something to help replenish my skin. I'm nearing my big 3-0 and my skin is worst that ever. It's like it's rebelling from aging but at the same time tired as it takes it toll from stress at work, blogging and life. I definitely need to do something and this challenge came right on time.

Sometimes, I wish i could quit blogging all together just so i could get enough sleep. But my body is wired to blog in the evenings. The more I don't, the more restless I am. My brain settles down immediately after I write a blog post. And I just love love love to write about anything beauty that I can't imagine not doing it anymore... It's scary, really.

But I also feel lucky since I have access to products to help my skin! I've used Midnight Recovery Concentrate before and I know how good it is for the skin. I think it's high time that I add this back into my routine. I just have to remember to be more vigilant with applying this and I just have to be conscientious with my schedule, eating habits and other routines.

It's nearly midnight. I need to start this rolling! TGIF tomorrow and guess what? I am not taking in any alcohol after work and on the weekend. :) Keeping my fingers crossed! :)

Please don't forget to follow me on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Will also post updates there as I go along this challenge.

Kiehl's will also keep a close tab on me and share with you more about Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate, follow them on Twitter and Facebook, too!

I remember the first time I was introduced to Kiehl's. I saw it in a US Magazine and there I saw one of it's store opening in New York. The no nonsense packaging immediately caught my eyes. When people tell that when brands like Kiehl's gets acquired by a big beauty comglomerate that they lose their identity, I beg to differ. Kiehl's for years now have maintained it character and quality... best yet is that Kiehl's now have an opportunity to expand in other countries.

Take for example here in the Philippines. When women before would wait for a friend or a relative to buy them the cult favorite Lip Balm, anybody could easily acquire one now give  the number of boutiques they now have here in Manila.

Quite recently, opened yet another botique. bigger and larger than the one in Greenbelt 5, the design has a touch of whimsy. Thanks to the inspiration of Coney Island, New York, Kiehl's boutique in Power Plant Mall in Rockwell evokes fun to balance out the seriousness of its products.

I was lucky enough o grace the event along with fellow beauty bloggers and magazine editors. It was nice seeing friends from Kiehl's again midst all the popcorn, candies, chips and cupcakes. There was a DIY canvass bag, photobooth, jazz musicians and a quirky mime.

Take a closer look at the event, I took photos using my trusty iPhone 4. :)

Kiehl's is famous for their musk fragrance and this time around they want to offer more for their clientele. Known for being meticulous and focused on the needs of everyone who walks in Kiehl's, they created four new scents. Introducing Aromaticblends, a unique take on inspired by different parts of the world. Orange Flower and Lychee from Morocoo, Nashi Blossom and Pink grapefruit from Japan, Fig Leaf and Sage from South of France (my favorite) and lastly, Vanilla and Cedarwood from the exotic land of Uganda.

Of course, there is still the iconic products that made Kiehl's a household name. :)

Their Rare Earth line and Midnight Recovery concentrate are their best-sellers here in the Philippines. Rare Earth for it's clarifying properties while Midnight Recovery Concentrate is great for those who wants to start the fighting the signs of aging.

Clearly Collective Dark Spot Corrector is my on wishlist for Christmas. :)

The moving Statue of Liberty made this experience more interactive. :)

Mikking Galang and Marth Sta. Barbara at the Canvass Bag DIY section

Glad to see Nikki again!:) That's her hubby Keith on the left and Tara on the right.

Lovely and super accomodating Kiehl's team made my shopping experience a lot more fun.

L'oreal Luxe gatheres some of Manila's finest beauty bloggers one afternoon at the stylish Romula Cafe for sweets and mocktails to introduce their last products. From Lancome, Kiehl's, Shu Uemura, and their fragrance, Giorgio Armani and Ralph Lauren.

Lancome Philippines Summer 2012

Lancome has got you covered this Summer with their UV Expert GN-Shield BB Complete, Blance Expert, Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara and Tresor Midnight Rose. Keep your skin flawless and fair with Blanc Expert, even and protected from the sun with BB Complete, your eyes more open with Hypnose Doll Eyes and your skin sensual with Midnight Rose. If you prefer higher coverage and a brightening foundation, opt for Teint Miracle Foundation.

Although I much prefer whitening products for the colder months (I find to be more effective during cooler season), Blanc Expert seems to be a good maintenance for thsoe who refuse to tan. I still want to reserve my thought on the BB Complete until I've fully road-tested it. I am, however, head over heels over Hypnose and Midnight Rose.

All of these are not available at your favorite Lancome boutique and counters.

Raplh Lauren Big Pony Collection
With  the success of Ralph Lauren's , it has released its female counter part, Big Pony Collection. It comes in 4 sporty chic scents that can match almost all female personas. Number 1 being sporty, 2 as Sensual, 3 as Sporty and 4, stylish. My pick? Number 4. The mix of wild cherry and amber has that soft oriental sweet scent.

Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gioia and Acqua Di Gio

I've spoken of Giorgio Armani's annual efforts to provide clean water for places who lack of it with every purchase of their number 1 fragrance, Acqua di Gio and Aqua Di Gioia. Talk about giving back while you get to take home something in return.

Acqua Di Gioia Essenza

Thi also includes their latest fragrance, Acqua di Gioia Essenza. It has some of my favorite notes, bloom lemons, pink pepper and jasmine. I admit I prefer this over the signature original, Acqua di Gioia.

Shu Uemura x Mamechiyo Skin Purifier and UV Base

Shu Uemura gives their famous high-grade cleansing oils Skin Purifier and UV Base a stylish makeover through the deisgns of contemporary Japanese Kimono designer, Mamechiyo. With each variant having a style and character of its own, you now not only have an effective cleansing oil but also a piece of art standing in vanity. As always, these designs are limited.

Shu Uemura Skin Purifier Ultime 8

Another thing to look forward to in Shu Uemura is their newest addition, Ultime 8 Surpreme Beauty. It boasts of 8 ingredients (camellia, ginger root, shea butter, jojoba, soy, sunflower, corn and olive) that will talk cleansing your skin into a whole different level. It will be released this May.

Kiehl's Philippines Summer 2012

Summer calls for more attention to the skin than any other season. For 161 years, Kiehl's at the forefront of making it its business to give the best the skin the most natural and most effective products. This season, Kiehl's Powerful Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate that targets wrinkles and (of course!) fine lines. Protect your skin from the harsh sun with the UV Light Daily Defense with SPF 50 PA+++. For more seious anti-aging needs, visit the nearest Kiehl's boutique near you?

Kiehl's Philippines is also in the process of opening more stores at the Metro's popular malls to ease the burden of travel for Kiehl's fans. How exciting right?

There's more important things in life than beauty. I've heard it so many times before and yes, I do agree. But without beauty, how do we know those that isn't? How do we know that black makes an elegant color for a small cocktail dress? How do we know that a red lipstick brighten our smile even more and makes our skin appear fairer, lighter?

Just like our skin when we were younger, we have this soft beautiful supple skin, protected from all harm. Our mother ensured this... But as we grow older, we now have the responsibility to take care of that skin that our mothers have held dear for many number of years.

It took me awhile to finally realize that nobody's going to take care of my skin but me. But taking care of it, was a lot harder than I thought. I would get lazy often that I miss a step or two. Aren't we all guilty of that?

But one thing I never forget (aside from cleansing my face) is applying sunscreen! Quite honestly, ever since I've achieved a clearer face (thanks to my Obagi Trupeel experience), I've only been using a few products on my face. I would even go to work with nary a makeup on! Surprising, isn't it? Lol. All is good when I know my skin is very well protected.

And what's been protecting my skin for quite sometime now, from summer to the start of the rainy season? It's the Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 PA+++ UVA.

I kind of like the idea that my sunblock is made from what used to be an apothecary, the beauty cosmetic counters of the olden days. Makes me feel like I'm part of those times but with better products and technology. For years, Kiehl's have been on the journey of providing the best in skin care, one of those is the Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 PA +++ UVA.

If you're a stickler for sunblock like I am, then you will enjoy this product as much as I do. It has everything I like in a sunscreen,  such as:
  • Easy to apply because of the Ultra Light formulation.
  • It is a broad-sprectrum sunscreen which provides protection both from UVB (Burning) and UVA (Aging).
  • High SPF - Hello, SPF 50 PA+++!
  • I love the scent. Triggers my brain that I'm very-well protected from the sun.
  • Doesn't cause any skin irritation or allergies.
  • It really protects my skin from sun damage.
  • White cast isn't too obvious in flash photography
I've been using this sunblock almost everyday  for more than 2 months now and so far, my skin hasn't changed in color. After coming from an intensive peeling treatment, it was important for me to protect my skin from dark spots. I knew Kiehl's was perfect choice since it's been known to be safe for any skin types, more so for sensitive skin.

Sunscreen are best thing out there to slow down aging or prevents our skin from looking dull and lifeless. The sun may be the giver of life but constant exposure to it isn't healthy for the skin. Even during the rainy days, the sun seeps through the clouds and could cause major damage to our skin. Not something be would want if we want to achieve beautiful skin.

To become beautiful, we don't necessarily have to undergo treatments, surgery or what nots. Sometimes, its as easy as protecting our skin with a sunscreen. As the old addage go, prevention is better than cure. So if you choose to become beautiful, start by protecting your skin with Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 PA+++.

The photos below provide you the ingredients and swatches of this product.

Check out the ingredients!

A pea-size like this is enough for the whole face

Easy to blend and gets absorbed easily

Provides a flawless finish.

Here's a few things I think we should know. I got this from Kiehl's Manila Facebook Page.

What is it about the sun that seems to attract rumors and myths? There are so many myths about sunscreen and how best to avoid the damaging effects of UV rays. To clear up any confusion, we took the top ten sun myths and debunked them. Here’s the scoop:

Myth #1: SPF over 30 is no more effective than 30
False: While the difference between SPF 30 and higher formulations is small, there is a difference — and every little bit counts.

Myth # 2: Sunscreens shut out all UV rays
False: Sunscreens let it some UV light, even those labeled SPF 100. Plus, not all sunscreens protect against both UVA and UVB ray. Use a broad-spectrum sun protection to get the most coverage. At Kiehl’s all of our sunscreen formulas protect against both UVA and UVB rays.

Myth #3: I don’t need sunscreen on a cloudy or winter day
False: The sun’s dangerous UV rays are present throughout the day, every day of the year – even on cold, cloudy or otherwise seemingly sunless days. At Kiehl’s we recommend wearing a facial product with SPF every day.

Myth # 4: SPF 30 is twice as strong as SPF 15
False: Higher SPF factors do not proportionately increase the protection provided. SPF 30 does not provide twice as much protection as SPF 15, rather it provides only about 5% more protection.

Myth # 5: I look healthier with a tan
False: What can we say? A tan is a warning sign that your skin has been damaged — even if you never experienced a sunburn. If you’re addicted to that “healthy” glow, stick to self-tanners like our Sun Free Self Tanning Formula. Never go to a tanning booth, which also damages the skin.

Myth #6: Once I achieve a “base tan” I don’t need to wear SPF
False: Whether you are tan or not, your skin can be damaged by UV rays.

Myth # 7: If I sit in the shade, I don’t need to wear sunscreen
False: You can still be exposed to the sun’s rays, as shade doesn’t completely block the sun. Plus, on the beach the sand actually reflects sunlight and increases the amount of UV radiation you’ll receive.

Myth #8: As long as I don’t burn, I’m wearing enough SPF
False: Invisible damage and skin aging are also caused by UVA light, which does not cause reddening or pain.

Myth #9: Sunscreen should be thick and heavy to be effective
False: New technology and the latest ingredients have lead to sunscreen products that are lightweight. For examples, our new Super Fluid UV Defense SPF 50+ goes on light and matte, not gloopy and thick.

Myth #10: If I have covered all my skin with lotion, I’m wearing enough sunscreen
False: Most people don’t use enough sunscreen! You need to apply an ounce of sunscreen to your body to completely cover it; Kiehl’s recommends reapplying every 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

We all want to be beautiful and it doesn't have to be so hard, right? Start with a sunscreen. Better yet, start with Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 PA+++. Believe me, your skin will love you for it!

Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 PA+++ UVA (30ml - Php1995, 60ml - Php2995) is exclusively available Greenbelt 5 and SM Mall of Asia.

You've probably noticed that I've been all up in my grill with skin care lately, trying different products here and there. Well, that's because having clear, supple, soft skin is quite a feat to achieve.

For more fifteen (15) days, I've been religiously applying Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate because of a skin care challenge I took on for Kiehl's Manila.

Here are the things we were encouraged to do / not to do:
  1. Get at least seven hours of sleep each night. - Not a problem at all since I sleep MORE than 7 hours. It's sleeping early I have problems with but it doesn't say here anyway. :)
  2. Drink soothing beverages before bed such as herbal tea, water or milk. - Water is a good choice.
  3. Try to avoid exercise near bedtime. - Who has time to do exercise? I don't!
  4. Stay away from late afternoon, early evening stimulates like caffeine. - So hard. My friends work in BPO's and if I want to see them, I need to have caffeine. :) Will try tea, instead?
  5. Enjoy relaxing activities before you go to sleep, like reading or taking a bath.- I like to read using my mobile phone. I also take a bath before going to bed.
  6. Shut the TV off when you are in ready to fall asleep. - Must Shut the TV off. (say it again, Shen!)
  7. Curb your alcohol consumption. - Booo!! :) Just kidding. :) I only drink with company and weekends..
Unfortunately, I wasn't that successful with the challenge except for applying the Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate before I go to bed. :)

But what's great is that even if I wasn't able to accomplish all the things that are recommended to get good skin, there is a product that will ensure that my skin is rejuvenated and it is now smooth and soft quite like a baby's bottom. Hehehe!

Somehow, I find the Kiehl's Midnight Recovery to help my face go back to its normal feel when I had too much wine and caffeine and had less than 7 hours of sleep. It's like it knows that I haven't been good to skin so it does its job by softening and replenishing it with its essential oils.

Another thing that I like is the scent. It never fails to put me in a spa-ish mood that relaxes me as soon as my head hit the pillows. I would even massage the oils on my hands just so I could smell the scent all the more.

Just to show to how clear Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate really is.

Can you believe that this oil do not feel greasy at all? Two to three drops is quite enough for the face. If you wish to apply this on your, two to three drops will work just as well.

Some oils can be too rich for many skin types especially those with enlarged pores like I do and some may even be too sensitive against natural oils. Using this sparingly is the best way to to enjoy this product. Less is more. Pat, don't massage.

So far, looking at the mirror, I see that my skin has become a lot clearer. And boy oh boy when you touch my skin, it's so smooth and soft. Like my skin has rewinded itself back from before I was using makeup. This is probably one of the reason why I'm not using a lot of makeup lately. I suddenly feel confident in my own skin.

This is a made up Shen nearly at the end of this challenge.
No concealer applied just a bit of foundation and mineral powder.

Conclusion:

I really am happy with the results of the Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to find a skin that looks softer and smoother. I'm glad I got to try this product since I've been undergoing this quarter life crisis. I needed products that would really help me feel young again. I know that many of you might think that I should just accept my fate and make the best out of it. I really am doing that, but I am quite happy that with the help of products like the Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate, I am afforded somewhat a back-to-the-past moments and feel youthful again. Somehow, I feel okay with going at night outs again because I have this product to take care of my skin.

If my mom is here, I am sure she'd be all over the Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate like I am. Anything to reduce the look of haggardness on her face after a day's work and exhausting traffic. So if you are thinking of getting your mom a gift that both of you can share, you can get her this one instead.
