The news could not be more timely! My ultimate favorite chef (sorry, it’s not Nigella Lawson, she comes a close second lang) The Great Anthony Bourdain just visited Jollibee in LA! And he got a taste of our sumptuous Halo-Halo! My heart swell when I saw how much he enjoyed Pinoy's ultimate dessert!

I’ve been here and there when it comes to food. Ate at expensive degustations, buffets at 5 star hotels, but the lure of Jollibee is just... what’s the word I’m looking.. ah! Irrestitable.

Growing up in city where fast food chains are in abundance, Jollibee has stood to become a holy grail. And I nearly tore my head off (or the cashier taking my order) when they told me that my favorite Swirly Bitz has been scratched off the list. Seriously? Are you kidding?

When I was offered the Jollibee MILO Mix-ins, I hesitated. But then again, remembering those hot afternoons during Summer vacation when I could down 2 glasses of iced-cold MILO drink, I said “Yes, i’ll get that instead.” Hoping against hope it had the same tasty crunchy coolness of Swirly Bitz. And it was! I thanked my lucky stars.

But the gods must have loved me more than I thought they do.. Jollibee added 2 more flavors in their soft served delight! Welcome MILO Mix-ins in Pretzel Crunch and Cookie Berry!

By the mere mention of Pretzel, it made me think of Swirly Bitz and prayed it tasted awesome. And it did! But so much better! The crunchiness of pretzel mixed in with the MILO and cream are like fireworks in my mouth! Cookie Berry, on the other hand, was a sweet tooth's dream. I am not a fruity person but the mix of cookie bits and berry syrup blended well together.

It's so good, I had to buy my each of BF's nephews and niece awhen we visited them this week! As expected, sugar rush at 8 in the evening! The kids loved the new MILO Mix-ins!

Today, nearly at my 30's, Jollibee desserts still has a way of bringing back awesome into my day. Especially in this hot humid climate. There's nothing more relaxing and cooling than the sweet taste of sundae in the form of the new Jollibee Sundae MILO Mix-ins!

Good morning!! What a beautiful Summer day! It's Friday and pay-day at that. Yey!

Allow me to share with you what I did yesterday!

Thanks to Jollibee's newest offering, Chocolate and Coffee Floats, I got some serious energy to accomplish lots of things. I even got to blog when I got home after a long day at work, investors meeting and caring for my pups!

My first taste of this delicious, refreshing, sweet drinks was when I went to Jollibee's latest branch at Amang Rodriguez branch along Marcos Hi-way. Thanks to the beautiful, Kezia, she picked me up at work to have lunch at Jollibee. We bonded over our favorite Jollibee meals and their Choco and Coffee Floats with bloggers Vince Golangco of WhenInManila.com, Saab Magolona of saabmagalona.tumblr.com, Chico of ChicoGarcia.wordpress.com, Kring's Rep and this hot Australian blogger/model. I was also happy that I got to see Char after more than a year!

It was definitely one cool way to spend what used to be a boring lunch time. I didn't even feel that yesterday was the hottest day recorded this year! Not with these super cold drinks with my favorite sundae on top!

Blogging about this now and seeing that melting sundae on those cool drinks is making my mouth water... I actually prefer Jollibee's sundae over other fast food restos. It's much creamier and sweeter. When I was tight in cash and couldn't afford lunchmeals back in college, I'd just get myself a sundae cone and I'd be good for the whole day.

Now they come with drinks, too! Shala!

Haii... they definitely got me. Iced choco and coffee are my weakness!

It's a good thing that Jollibee Chocolate and Coffee Floats cost only Php45 (Even cheaper than those ice cream)!! And by adding 25 on top of your favorite Value Meal, you can get these instead.

Now my only dilemma is choosing whether to choose coffee or chocolate.

Hmmm... what to have.. what to have!

Since I can't decide yet... Take a look of my photos I took from yesterday lunch. :)

To my friends crushing on Enchong, you'll be seeing more of him when you visit Jollibee

Yum!! I didn't get to taste these babies because I was satisfied already with my Jollibee Floats!

Awww... Thanks, Jollibee!

Saab and BF. Such beautiful couple. :) Parang kami lang ni Ron. #chos

Vince and Chico talking about blogging. Chico has machismo in person! :)

With Chico Garcia. Officemate, Gene, wished I got his book signed by Chico. Sabi ko, next time! Hahaha!

With Jollibee float Brand Manager. Pretty!

Eye Candy blogger and model, . Sila pa lang, ulam na! :) Jollibee Floats covered the dessert part of our lunch, thank goodness!

Group pic! It was really an uber fun lunchtime for me that day!

I'm not surprise to love Jollibee floats, I've always been a fan of Jollibee desserts. Their peach mango pie, tuna pie (they're back!!), Swirly Bitz, Milo Blast and of course their classic choco hot fudge! :)

Jollibee desserts palang, solve na!

Jollibee kasi eh!

collage hommage to my latest fave drinks. :)

Today, I will definitely have these babies again. One for lunch, the other for merienda. Good thing I work near Jollibee at the 2nd Stop at BGC! :)

See you there!

P.S. Expect more makeup hauls.. these Jollibee Floats will help me save tons of money since I'll be buying these instead of those expensive fraps and iced coffees.

And no I don't mean cake foundation. I'm showing you now the cake that has no RIVAL in my heart!

Sansrival cake!!

I guess that's why it's called Sansrival... because it has no rival. At least in my heart! :) I plan to learn how to make my own Sansrival but until that day comes, I'm getting my Sansrival fixed from Red Ribbon, Mom & Tina's, Goldilocks and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. I heard that Dumaguete have the best Sansrival Cakes and I can't wait til I get me some of that... If you're wondering how long I finish this up.. 4 or 5 days? I know right? I'm so addicted to cream/sugar based sweets that it's going to be the death of me.
And I don't know why I'm posting this when I already ate my last piece of Sansrival!! Bugger!

Must ask the BF to get another whole cake.. hehehe!

P.S. The cake above is from Mom & Tina's from their C5 Pasig Branch. :) That's where I get my favorite Meringue.

Red Ribbon's got a new cake and it will make your mouth water. It sure made mine did.
When Red Ribbon invited me toi witness the unveiling of their latest cake, I knew I was done for.
For heaven's sake, it was chocolate cake!!

It's fudgy, moist, thick, yummy. It's the Chocolate Fudge Cake!

They are presenting this as Dessert as Comfort Food... For those days that you just need that certain something to get through or simply something that'll make you feel good.

Well, here's some photos. Don't shoot me if it starts to make you crave for a piece, ayt?

I'm particular to salty treats but a choco fudge cake with its sweet icing will always always have me comforted.

Darn, now I want one again.

much love,
Shen

Childhood memories came flooding back as I spooned The Original Manila Scramble. This was a favorite back in my elementary and high school days and I dearly miss eating this ice craze goodness for nearly a year now. When I saw Teeyah's post about it I was glad that there would be a place for me to go to sate my cravings.

Today I got the chance to try it for myself... It was pure heaven!! It was the same familiar taste with the sweetness of the pink ice, powdered milk and choco and strawberry syrup. I simply can't describe how good it is. I love love love love love scramble!!

In fact, I love it so much... I had two servings! :) LOL!

Here are the photos I took.

Located across BreadTalk and Chef D'Angelo. I forgot what wing its located but it's one of the older wing, Faura I think. The wing where Rustan's is located.

Meringue according to the ever reliable wikipedia, is a type of dessert made from whipped egg whites and powdered sugar. Some meringue recipes call for adding a binding agent such as cream of tartar or the cornstarch found in confectioner's sugar. Meringues are often flavoured with vanilla and a small amount of almond or coconut extract. They are very light and airy and extremely sweet.

This sumptuous dessert makes one return to the renaissance and think of Marie Antoinette with her frivolous frou frous and china tea sets. For many Filipinos though, it is but a simple sweet treat available at aling Sering's Sari-sari store for only about 50 cents a piece. Meringue in this side of the globe is not usually served with chocolate or strawberry, it is just usually followed with a big glass of water to avoid tonsilitis.

My memory of meringue will always be of my mother. She would buy me a pick of meringue whenever she visited a certain restaurant inside Quezon City Circle. She knew how much I like sugar-base sweets and would indulged me but she certainly demanded that I drink more than a glass of water in order not to get sick.

To relive the memories, the significant other and I decided for an early take-out dinner at Mom and Tina's Bakey Cafe (located at C5 road, beside House of Minis) when I notice this big tub of Meringue selling for P250.00. I was tempted to buy because the feeling of nostalgia crept in. But a big tub? I was having doubts if I could finish it. Good thing, there was a pint tub of meringue for only about P75.00. I quickly added it to my take-out list.

The verdict? Like mom was right beside me watching her favorite gossip show, it was just like the meringue i use to eat with her. Good things do come in small packages. This instance, its a piece of sugary whipped goodness called meringue.

DSC_0589 copy by you.

Bite in and get a crunch of sweetness from a meringue today.

And oh, I finish the whole pint in one sitting. I knew I should have gotten the big tub.
Perhaps, later?

much love,
Shen

Disclaimer: I am not in any way a professional chef nor do I claim to be an expert in anything about food. I am not good at describing food nor the taste. I am just sharing my two pennies about it. :)

Kakain
or in english tidbits or sweetmeats are something I can never get tired of. Eating kakanin will always remind me of childhood memories when after a siesta, me and the cousins will all go down to the kitchen for our merienda(afternoon snacks). Although we enjoy American snacks such as pizza, sandwich and the likes.. those that are unforgettable are the times we ate Filipino delicacies. Oftentimes this will come from our neighborhood baker but some will come from provinces that makes the best delicacies. Two of which you will see below, just transported me back to my childhood years.

Nana Meng Tsokolate
photo credit to Nana Meng website

On my way to Food Choices of Glorietta, I suddenly passed by this small kiosk of Tsokolate(chocolate). I've never seen this before or probably not as appreciative as i am know to even notice it, but the kakanin on display caught my eyes. Tsokolate boast of its filipino-spanish style of preparing hot chocolate. They sell them in packs and jars so that you can enjoy Nana Meng's Famous Hot Chocolate.

But the lazy in me, didn't get what Nana Meng was famous for. Rather I immediately bought two of the famous kakanin that usually accompanies hot chocolate, the Cassava Leche Flan and Bibingka Malagkit. These two delicacies are quite famous in town fiestas and family celebrations. Most likely, if there is a party there will be one or the other or both. I use to remember that when we visit the provinces we will always buy foods like these as pasalubong to our families (but we end up eating some of it on the way. lol.).

The Cassava Leche Flan is something that a lot of adults can enjoy. It's not too achingly sweet and has a nice bite to it. You can eat this with a sweet drink like hot chocolate, ice tea or soda to balance out the flavor. While bibingka maligkit is sweet to the taste and you'll probably get some stucked on your teeth. I would always scrape off the top portion of the cake that tastes of caramelized sugar and coconut (think sticky macaroons). Yum!!

Cassava Leche Flan (Cassava Cake with Custard on top)

Bibingka Malagkit (Glutinous Rice Cakes)
Filipino's version of brownies! minus the chocolate but still as sweet and sinful! :)

Filipino delicacies usually comprise of ingredients easily grown and are usually made from scratch. Making these takes the whole member of the family. In the old days, the men would gather the needed ingredients like climbing the coconut tree and gathering crops. While the women will cook them. That was when things were simpler.

Unfortunately, my busy schedule can't have me baking and shaking around the kitchen much less visit the grocery. I'm quite thankful that Nana Meng's has a several stores in the metro to provide me with a little something from back in the days. These, after all, are my true comfort food.

I can't say enough how proud I am of my culture, especially when it comes to the gastronomic part. :)

To my Pinay readers, when was the last time you ate these two filipino desserts?

To my international readers, have you tried this or enjoyed somethign similar to the Cassava Leche Flan or Bibingka Malagkit?

much love,
