I realize that i've been remiss on my skincare reviews. This blog is full of makeup posts but little about skin care. But since this is a personal blog above it being a beauty blog, the skin care I will be posting are those that worked on my skin.

I've tired tons of skin care over the years but I hardly share them to you. Quite frankly, they are tedious to write about and seriously, what works for me may not work for you (vice versa). Sometimes, I get desuaded to write about them fearing that you won't find them useful anyway. But I get a lot of inquiries about what skinc are I use and what to do with oily skin, acne and the marks it leaves behind.

So here I am, taking my chance and hoping that you do find something here that might be an answer to your problems.

What I think of skin care...

The day I started with a complete skin care was the day my mom notiuced that my skin isn't going to heal itself. She took me to a DermClinic and there she purchased a whole range of skincare devoted to reducing and healing all my acne. It was very expensive and she wasn't happy paying more than Php6,000 at that time. But it had to be done.

Get a clue here, ask your parents to take you to a certified Dermatologist before trying to do anything to your skin on your own. Should this post be helpful, show this to your mom or sister (whoever) before buying anything. Also, do more research before acquiring any products.

I try to keep my skin care within the same family whenever I use it. But let's be realistic that most of we tend to jump from one skincare to another. This is not a good practice. Try to keep everything within the same brand when buying skincare especially if its for Acne treatment. Try not to overlap brands for acne concerns.

Take for example when I tried Belo Prescriptives. Jheng first introduced me to this skincare when she told me that her skin improved after just about a few weeks using the whole range. And for the total price of Php3,000 for the whole Acne Care Set, I thought that I should try it.

But then I first visited Belo Medical Clinic first, consulted with their dermatologist before committing to this set. --- Yes, please consult first before buying anything. Can't stress this enough, seriously.

I was happy that Dr. Carlo recommended exactly what Jheng was using.

Belo Prescriptives Modified Acne Control Kit with DLC

There's the Pore Minimizer, Chat 2%, TOG Soap Skincare, DLC Peeling Cream, Tyrosinase Inhibitor Cream 5%, Sunblock Gel.

1. TOG Soap (Php280) - this is a clear soap that helps remove excess oils, dirt and dead skin cells. Result after using a feel of well-cleansed face, smooth and squeaky.

Use this twice daily, morning and evening.

2. Pore Minizer Toner (Php420) - a great toner in removing excess oil dirt and dead skin cells that the soap left behind. It also has properties to help close pores. It does not entirely minize the pores but at least it removes impurities really well.

Use this twice daily, morning and evening.

3. CHAT 2% (Php672) - contains Clindamycin, Hydroquinone, Alum and Tretinoin that great in treatment of whiteheads, blackheads, and mild to moderate acne. It also helps in healing skin pigmentatons.

This toner-like medication is a star product for me. It has all the important components in reducing acne, drying up pimples and all-around protection for the face. The price of this may be steep but definitely worth it!
Use this twice daily after the Pore Minimizer. DO NOT RUB, just gently tap it on to the skin and the parts where you have acne flairing up.
Apply this when you feel that an acne is about to surface out or have signs that it will acquire a huge zit.
Does not immediately reduce acne swelling especially for very ripe acne.

4. Tyrosinase Inbihibor Cream 5% (Php369.60)- this is my most favorite! This really lightens all my acne marks! I can't stress enough how well this cream works. It is like a spot treatment for blemishes but you can use this all over the face.

Acne marks lighten after a week or so. It disappear after a month of use.
Use this on very dark pigmentation.

5. DLC Peeling Cream (Php1,232) - contains 0.05% Tretinoin which is a great exfoliating a to treat skin pigmentation, it protects against premature aging and against blackheads, whiteheads anand mild to moderate acne.

This works instantly! You'll notice that your skin is slowly peeling (not scary peeling) on the part where you apply this. This is ideal for those who have serious skin pigmentation and lots of acne marks that they want to disappear!
Avoid on the sides of the nose and eye area since our skin there is thinner and more sensitive.
Mix DLC Peeling Cream (1/3 of a finger) and Tyrosinase Inhibitor Cream 5% (1/3 of a finger) together, then apply all over (avoiding lips and eye area) after the CHAT 2%

I don't often use the DLC Peeling Cream since I often get actual facial peeling procedures from my dermatologist but this is definitely great

6. Sunblock Gel - this is the best sunblock for those who have oily skin. It's clear and easy to apply. It's absorbed easily and it even makes a good makeup base.

The big question, does this skin care work?

Yes, in a week or two, with regular facial included, this Modified Acne Control Kit worked and did reduce my acne and my skin felt much improved after one a month or so. I still did get acne during hormonal days, but this set really gave me that much needed care.

What I love about this kit is that it helps with acne and then lighten marks. Not many acne control skin care have that double advantage. I know how many of you feel about acne marks while still dealing will icky cystic acne and I can definitely relate. That is why I feel that these would be ideal for those who have less time to spend at clinics for peeling procedures.

Products take awhile to finish. First one to run out is the soap and pore minimizer toner (cheapest among all the products listed).

It's not only me who loves this line, most of my friends who have tried this (like Jheng) loves this line as well. And the price isn't so bad, either.

Although I switch my toners and facial wash and soaps all the time, I kept Tyrosinase Inhibitor Cream 5% and CHAT 2% because of how well these two works. I'm both on my second purchase and still getting the same results when I use it.

I definitely recommend this set! But I sincerely advice that you go and consult with a Belo Medical dermatologist first before buying this set. Your skin may not be as worst as mine or that your skin may need a different skin care set than this one. :)

Happy 11.11.11!!

Just last Friday, I had one of the best facials and peeling! This Friday, I'm spilling the details for you!

Belo Medical Clinic at SM Megamall Atrium

Make no mistake, it's always a good thing whenever I go to Belo Medical Clinic. The promise of luxury and quality services and all smiles staff is something to look forward too. I love how they are straight forward with their treatments and how it will affect you and the possible results after. I love how important I feel whenever I visit Belo Clinics.

I initially wanted to try the Oxygen facial which among the top 3 favorite of ZsaZsa Padilla. Unfortuantely, for my skin type, it is not the best as I'm oily and the facial is much more appropriate for those who needs moisture. I was quite disappointed but they told me that I could get a Power Peel instead, which Dr. Carlo thinks would work wonders for the skin. Given that I have acne marks and uneven skin tone, Power Peel is a much better treatment and procedure to try.

Meet Dr. Carlo!

My aesthetician Yna, started off my Power Peel with a soothing lavender aromatheraphy.

Then a facial cleansing to make sure that my face is well prepped for the treatment that's about to happen. I love the scent of their facial cleanser.

Yna then placed a hot towel on my face and proceeded to wipe off the cleanser and give me a much cleaner skin.

She then applied a solution to promote skin exfoliation for the Power Peel ahead. I can't wait!

Steam time. I do like this part because steaming helps open up my pores and makes the extraction of whiteheads and blackheads a lot less painful.

I do like extractions because my enlarged pores can accumulate a lot of dirt that usually leads to acne, cystic ones. I make sure that I get my face cleansed and a monthly facial would immediately eliminate a chance of me acquiring pimples.

Yes, it's painful. But pain tolerance differs from person to person. This is where the saying "No Pain. No Gain." comes into place, for me. #lol.

Fortunately, Yna have a light hand. It didn't hurt as it usually does. There's always something about "more expensive" facial clinics. Their people are trained well and you get the same result every time. It being my second time in Belo, both times, extractions were tolerable. I have very low pain threshold and I wouldn't mind paying extra for someone who's really skilled at what their doing and gives me a much less painful experience at that.

After extraction, laser comes and this is my favorite part of my facial! I love the buzzing sound, the scent and the fact that this tightens the pores and has anti-bacterial effect, so fitting after extractions. I wish there's a treatment that they can so this to me for an hour. But it's not healthy so I take in this few sessions and enjoy it!

And now for the Power Peel! If you've tried microdermabrasion or diamond peel... THIS IS NOTHING LIKE IT. (sorry for the all caps)... POWER PEEL is waaayyyy better!

With the Power Peel skin treatment program, you can see immediate changes in your skin with noted improvement in age spots, fine lines and flaking skin. This unique approach exfoliates dead and dull skin and stimulates the production of fresh new skin cells and collagen. It is the ultimate advancement in non-invasive, non-surgical skin conditioning and can even reduce appearance of stretch marks and acne scars.

The Powerpeel, also known as microdermabrasion, is safe to use in all skin types and color. With the aid of corundum crystals vacuumed through a delicate handpiece and held at a precise angle to the skin, the aesthetician effects a superficial skin polishing. It is better than the diamond peel because it is more hygienic since the crystals used are disposed off immediately while the latter makes use of a reusable tip. Skin will be softer, smoother and more glowing. Results are seen after the first treatment and continually improve with succeeding sessions.

As you can see by the photos below that the machine is different. It's not painful at all or dragging to the skin. It feels good actually, I could feel my the dry dead skin being removed by the small crystals. This machine is so effective that you'll definitely feel a smoother and softer face afterwards.

What I love about Power Peel is that it doesn't have down time. You can already go back to your usual routine the next day. No intensive peeling either afterwards. You're only left with a nice soft skin, much improved than before coming in to the clinic.

I have a few acne marks and a pimple near my right eye, getting a facial and Power Peel os exactly what I need at that time. By removing the outer layer of my skin, I reduce pore clogging that results to cystic acne. I'm also letting my skin breathe more by getting a facial and Power Peel as my skin is cleaner and a new skin is showing off its natural glow. No dull looking skin no more!

This is an hour after the treatment with no makeup whatsoever (isn't it obvious? hihihi!) As you can see, my face doesn't look reddish or traumatized from the extractions. I actually find my skin looking a lot better compared to days before.

I wasn't prepared to be blown away with the Power Peel procedure. But apparently, every one who raved about it was saying the truth. It's the best lunchtime peel. Although my heart goes for chemical peels like Blue Peel, TCA, Mandelic and Glycolic, I'm happy that I have a new addi(c)tion to the list.

I highly recommend this to those with oily skin, people who are dealing blemishes and dark acne scars.. those who pretty much needs to renew their skin. Especially if you feel you have uneven and dull skin tone.

Why do we need peeling treatments anyway? Having known that our skin sheds unevenly, not only to take comfort with exfoliating products, but given the state of my skin, peeling procedures are heaven sent! It reduces the chances of giving me more pimples, lighten my skin and gives birth to a new more softer, cleaner surface!

I seriously can't think of a negative thing to say about this treatment. It doesn't hurt, it gives immediate results and you're assured of good skin for days (depending on how well you take care of your skin of course).

I read some where that there is no ugly women, only lazy ones. For the lazy ladies out there, you might want to haul yourself down to clinic for some Power Peel session. Because seriously, all you have to do is lie down and wait and you'll be up in no time with a beautiful skin.

Before my Bohol trip, I decided to finally try out Belo Medical Clinic and schedule a facial. As always, procedures with top clinics like Belo is best done with an appointment, so I went ahead a few days to schedule my visit.

I went to the Belo Medical Clinic at their branch in The Atrium of Megamall. It's the most convenient branch for me as its nearer my place. When I get a facial, I would like to go straight home immediately and not deal with too much traffic.

I consulted with their uber good looking dermatologist, my friend was right, everyone in Belo are good-looking! No kidding! My guy dermatologist had flawless skin and he's fairer than I am. I felt inferior, I tell you. But on to business and I told him that my oiliness is back and I hate it with a vengeance. I want something that can get rid of it. Stat.

When he recommended Belo Botanicals Cleansing Facial, I was a bit apprehensive since I am not into all natural when it comes to my facials. Nope! Like I said in various previous posts, I love the science of aesthetics and cosmetics. If you're just going to slap some herbs and what ever natural ingredients you got there, I might as well do it as the comfort of my own home. I can easily get those home remedies online. When i go to a facial clinic, I go for science and chemicals that will make be look brand-spanking new! Enough said. My good-looking dermatologist informed me that it is a natural type of facials but it also has AHA to revive my skin and other things that will target the needs of my oily face.

Botanical Cleansing Facial is best for those like me who have combination skin, oily on the T-zone, while calm and dry on other parts of the face. But to address more on the oiliness, he also added an Ice Mask which reduces the oil production. Ice mask I heard was a popular choice for many Belo clients.

Also, he recommended that I acquire a regimen that combats the oiliness and the re-surfacing of acne. Will show you that in another post.

My facial was pretty much no-nonsense, which is a good thing. I was ushered into a room that looked very much like a treatment area but a little bit more posh. There, I was asked to lie down and the facial started. Eveything that was used on me smelled really nice.

The Botanical Cleansing Facial consisted of cleansing the face, aromatheraphy, scrubbing with the Botanical facial scrub and extraction of whiteheads and blackheads. There was the usual steam, vacuum and laser. Like I said, pretty straight to the point and it was done in less than an hour. I particularly like the facial crub and massage. My attendant was very skilled and she knew when it hurts when she was extracting my icky whiteheads and blackheads. Needless to say, I loved every bit of it. Yes, even with the extracting part.

And I'm just very happy that all those icky whiteheads and blackheads are now a thing of the past!

The Ice Mask was a nice ending and comforted my skin after extraction. And it did feel like my face was against a nice cool ice. I'm all positive vibes at this point because I really need my face to behave! it's oily as hell! Ice Mask was the best ending to my Botanicals Cleansing Facials.

The mask getting me all teary-eyed. My advise? Keep your eyes closed at this point. Lol!

I'd definitely recommend this facial as maintenance when you've already treated your acne and hardly experiencing any. It's a very simple facial and I don't think this is one for you if you're skin is at its worst moment. For me, it was just right. The oiliness tamed down a bit but not during really hot humid times. But over all, my faced looked cleansed and clear after my Botanical Cleansing Facial.

I would consider getting the Botanical Cleansing Facial again in between getting treatments for when I have acne. Being inside Belo Clinic makes me feel like a million dollars. They are very adept at taking care of their clients and provide them the best in service. The clinic at Megamall was designed where in the waiting area is located at the middle of the clinic, away from prying and gawking from passerby. They ask if you like refreshment and everyone is just so courteous.

My attendant/facialist is especially attentive and she was able to answer all the questions I had for her about other treatments. She seem to be aware as well those treatments that I would be interested it. Most of all, I felt very comfortable during the whole procedure and I almost didn't feel any pain - except in the nose part, that is. I love how speedy the facial is and yet I know my face was thoroughly cleansed.

When getting a facial I suggest you do the following:

1. Facials are treatments, ensure that your hands are clean before you begin since your face are raw and open after your facial, just in case you need to touch your face.
2. Put your phone in silent mode to avoid disturbances while your getting you facial. After all, this is a nice time to rest.
3. Try not to touch your face after the treatment and don't apply makeup (unless this is allowed).
4. Avoid populated and polluted areas after facial to avoid contaminating your face.
5. NEVER wash your face after facials. Wait at least 4 to 6 hours before doing so.
6. Always follow advise of your facialist if she has after your facial.
7. Never rush your facialist.
8. Always express when experiencing pain, burning or whatever that bothers you at the course of your treatment.
9. Inform the clinic of all your allergies and previous treatments that caused any undue reactions on your face, as well as diseases and such.
10. Enjoy, relax and welcome a much cleanse face!

I'm sure many were surprised when sexy radio DJ Angelika or fondly called Angelicopter, announced to the world that she had her breast augmented at the most famous cosmetic surgerical clinic, Belo Med. It's not often that we have someone admit they had undergone such procedure. After all, we want to get enhanced for people to mistake it as something real...

Isn't that the usual case? How can these celebrities announce nationwide (worldwide, even) that they were cosmetically enhanced? Aren't they scared to be judged? Isn't natural beauty important to them?

Seriously, I'm laughing myself at typing those words. Because natural beauty comes in being real and I do admire these women for rejoicing the fact they can now enjoy a much slimmer and well-proportionate bodies, cosmetically-made or otherwise.

Looking at Angelika during the Belo Blogger's Night, I was surprised on how natural she was. Nothing seemed off unlike with other ladies I've met who had the same procedure done. Although breast augmentation is the farthest thing on my mind, her confidence was so contagious that I'm sure half of us there wanted one even if my 36D breast size didn't need it. Perhaps, a lift instead.

Angelika talked to us about the whole process she went through, on how she first talked to her husband about it, consulted with several cosmetic surgeons as well as members of her family and friends. Bottomline is, even when you're doing this procedure for you, you need to be aware of the people that are important in your life before going through anything invasive. With that and all knowledge and support she needed, Angel had the procedure done and VIOLA! A fabulous looking body in no time! She was even wake-boarding in Laoag, a few weeks after! :)

Why did she do it anyway? After giving birth and intensive breast feeding, Angel's breast size dropped down from a B to A. I've asked friends who breastfed if they noticed any changes from their breast size or nipples and some of them told me that they did while some said they haven't noticed any difference. I guess, it differs from one woman to another. For Angel, she felt her confidence waning whenever she's in a bikini or just with her husband. She didn't feel like her old self. Breast Augmentation was something she has always wanted even when she was single, so thinking of it as a way to improve her appearance was a typical thing for her to contemplate doing.

And now, she stands before us looking magnificently like a goddess with an angelic voice and witty brain that will knock any man's socks right off.

Angel can only thank Belo Med Group for having the latest techniques and technology because Belo's Breast Augmentation will allow her to breat feed again, as its procedure is a lot safer with lesser complications pre and post-surgery. The way they do it by way that makes the breast look natural as it's inserted near the muscle and not the fat or skin. The jiggly-wiggly it still there and production of milk isn't hindered. You never have to fear your skin from sagging and the implants are safer from outside elements.

Serious medical stuff, I tell you. Some of the words Dra. Belo were saying wasn't even within the realm of my vocabulary. But she was able to explain that their way is the latest in cosmetic surgery and they provide a safer alternative to breast augmentation.

I know many are still apprehensive to get anything invasive done. I am not about to push you to contemplate on it. But me, well, aside from limiting my food intake to healthy options and exercising... cosmetic surgery isn't very far from my mind. I want it and I aim to have it. Maybe not now... probably in the future.
