Jeans For Your Curves

There are just some things that I could never make myself do. One of those is shop for jeans. Ever since gaining a lot of weight for the past two years, I realized that looking for a pair of jeans that fit seems so aggravating. It lowers my self-confidence and usually, I end up buying just because I feel like I should after trying on different sizes and styles that I’ve exhausted my sales attendant from going to and fro stockroom to get me a larger to a more larger sizes. Suffice it to say, I leave the store dissatisfied. And with how expensive a pair of jeans is, my wallet definitely feels the same way as well.

But how could I hate my now curvaceous body? Hehehe! A lot of people tell me that my “new” body looks alright and I am quite filled up in the “right places. Hmmm.. My perpetual “stomach in, chest out” must work well when I’m in public. I love that my tush seems a lot curvier now and my thighs aren’t stick thin like it was when I was in my teens. Actually, if it weren’t for the commercialization of “thin is beautiful”, I could say that I love my body now. Actually, I wish to have a body like Kim Kardashian.

Still, I know I had to do something. I know that I can’t be forever helpless of not knowing what fits me, right? Then realized that I needed to lose some of the weight I gained. Not all of it since I love the curves that I have acquired. I enrolled into a diet program and gym membership and transitioned myself into a healthier and curvier me!

Still, I can’t see myself fitting another pair of jeans. I usually am in dresses or leggings. I am scared of seeing my tushies pressed against a pair of jeans that doesn’t flatter me at all. I am scared of the back of the jeans gaping open or when my belly is overflowing from the waist line.

When I heard that Levi’s are coming out with jeans with women in mind and their curves the focus, I was intrigued. I needed jeans that hugged my curves, not pour it or supress it! I want jeans that think of the curves and not the size. Oh no! Not the size please!

When I attended an intimate luncheon with fellow bloggers, we were tasked interpret the styles we believe in. We were to make a mood board with use of magazine clippings. Believe me when I say that I did have a hard time coming up. So I just let the ideas flow and started tearing out pieces that attracted me and those that I would wear.

After that, I noticed the following things:
  • I dress according to places I am going.
  • I love dresses, especially cocktail ones.
  • Black is a staple for me because it makes me look thinner.
  • I love oversized shirts. Better let people think I’m pregnant instead of chubby.
  • I use a lot of accessories to distract people from my body size.
  • I hardly wear pants because I feel conscious wearing them.
  • Short dresses make me look taller.
  • I use a lot of makeup to keep people looking at my face instead of my body
  • My outfits are really outdated
  • I love jackets because it hides my true size

When I started researching, I found out that I’m not the only person who feels this way about their body and the clothes they wear. Many women are often ashamed of their bodies, even those who don’t have anything to be ashamed of.

The sad thing is many women don’t even know if they are indeed wearing the perfect jeans for them. Looking and refitting my jeans I have at my closet, none of them fits me perfectly well.
  • Some of them are gaping at the back which shows my undies. (totally unacceptable)
  • Some of them give me bulges, meaning my belly is spilling like crazy and end up looking pregnant.
  • Some of them aren’t just my size anymore. It’s either too small or too big.
  • None of them hugs my curves. How do I know? I can pull them down so easily that I feel like my tush is a washboard.

It seems that Levi’s has answered all these dilemmas by giving what women want. Jeans that hugs us so right, you’ll wonder how you have ever lived without it. No need to feel ashamed, these jeans are costumed not for our size but according to our curves. Can you believe that I am size 26 in these new jeans? Two sizes down compared to other brands! I know, right? But like I said, size is not the important thing here, is the ohh-la-la curves.

Fortunately, I don’t need to bear with those if I have the perfect fit jeans hugging my hips. No more uses for belts (leave that to the guys). No more mom-jeans that make our tush look ten times bigger! Skinny jeans won’t ever make me feel fat when I have jeans that are shaped to contour my curves and enhance it. All those jeans problems thrown out of the door, just like that.

With fellow beauty and fashion bloggers, Levi's Ogilvy Ladies and Nuffnag Peeps.

Are you like me who had those problems? Aren’t you just glad that finally, there are jeans available in our country that cater to flatter our curves than hide it? I know, I am!

Thanks to the wonderful people of Levi's and the team they work with, curvier is better!

Much love,
Shen
