Shen's Addiction: coastal scents

DKNY scents is fast becoming a staple in my vanity. Ever since I got the DKNY Delicious Candy Apples in Sweet Caramel, I seem to use it almost everyday. At work, at play, at events and one time even before going to bed (I didn't notice what I was doing).

Sweet Caramel is one of the most sweetest fragrance I own. It has the signature apple scent, topped with a whiff of flowers and slathered with rich velvety vanilla caramel. I think of candies whenever I spray this all over me.

But the thing is that the sweetness does not overwhelm. A good thing for me if I may add. I love how when I just sprayed it that the sweetness envelopes me but do not linger all too long. Instead, I'm left with a tinge of sweetness and the rest just balance out. I simply can't explain it but I would just say, it's not too strong as one might expect from a candy-inspired perfume.

But boy do the scent last long. Reminds me of my Clinique Happy when it comes to staying power. I don't need to lug this around my purse to ensure that I am smelling sweet whole day long. And even when I get home, there is still enough scent left on me.

I am crazy over the shape of the bottle of DKNY Be Delicious perfumes.

I simply love using them whenever I go out.

And the candy stick adds quite a charming kick to the whole bottle.

Sweet is exactly the word. DKNY Delicious Sweet Caramel Candy Apples.

Don't you just love packages? Even when it often means that a credit card bill is associated with it? I do! I do! For awhile now, I've been stopping myself from ordering online since it takes ages (2 to 3 weeks) for my purchases to arrive. I just got really tired and impatient in waiting. But the shopaholic in me can't stop!!

The instigator? Nikki of Askmewhats' Eureka Moment: Coastalscents Gel Liner s post (Hihihi!). I mean, how can my shopaholic heart, body and soul resist? Even if my credit card limit is nearing its end, I still clicked on that Pay Now button while praying I don't get into emergency situation because my CC won't be able to bail me out.

Sooner that later, I got a message from Nikki that my orders are finally here! Yey! I stopped by her office which also gave me a chance to deliver her a belated birthday cake from us, Pinay beauty bloggers (Sophie, Jheng, Phoebe, Jaimie and I). Why not give her makeup instead? Well, she had loads of it! I had to give her something to munch on while blogging, right? That's how I think about it, anyway? :)

Without much further ado, here they are!!

The package!!

Toma of Makeup Mix Shop is such a great seller. She replies immediately to my concerns and grants them, too. PO in Pasig City is SOOOOOOOOOOO bad (in my experience) that I had to communicate to Toma (yes, I call her by her first name because I feel close to her already! lol!) that I need my package delivered to Nikki's instead for assurance it will get here safely (or not snagged off by anyone in the PO--this is my suspicion why some packages didn't get to me). Toma immediately attended to this request without any confusion whatsoever and my heart at ease with our transaction. It's just like buying off stuff from a friend. :)

I honestly feel I robbed Toma with all the Free stuff included here!! :) I mean, I get a FULL Size Eyeshadow, about 1/8 tsp of another eyeshadow then I still get a coupon for a free eyeshadow on my next order! Not to mention that it's FREE SHIPPING!!

The Makeup Masala Mineral Eyeshadows are SEALED! I haven't seen mineral makeup sealed like this. :)

We all all know how pigmented mineral eyeshadows are. Makeup Masala Mineral doesn't disappoint us in that department. :) I love Priya because it goes with my skintone so well. Agni is just a vibrant pink that I love.. for a Hello Kitty inspired look, perhaps?

Did I just whet your appetite for the actual stuff I got? I don't think so since I must be the last person on earth who got this infamous gel liners. And true to its hype, it is pigmented. Greatly so but.... too creamy or mouss-y for me.

I commuted with this babies so it was exposed to hot weather and when I got home, upon checking the contents, my 24K gel liner looked liquidy or runny in consistensy. I was scared that it will be the same when I applied it. I put it on the freezer to cool it first before swatching it. Thankfully, My Platinum and Truffle didn't look runny but was nevertheless to soft in consistency. This falls short a little to my expectation but compared to the others that I've tried, this gel liners are awesome (channeling Barney Stintson here from How I Met your Mother).

SWATCH TIME:

Platinum: OMG> This liner get 5 stars from me! So rich in color, not sparkly shimmery splendid but a true platinum silver. I love it! Can't wait to use this in future looks. A Lady GaGa inspired look... Hmm... Maybe, maybe not. Let's see.
Truffle: Looks good enough to eat! Not likely! Hehehe! The brown color of this liner is just what I was looking for. Dark chocolate! Yum. Yes, I gotta remember that this is not exactly chocolate.. it's just the name.

24K: To be honest, it may look gold on the pic but on the pot, it's a different story. It's looks a bit bronzy for me. I was able to play with Jheng's and it was similar so it wasn't a product defect. I was looking for a true gold liner but this isn't it. But I'm glad that I have this on my stash, anyway. Yes, I still love it just the way it is. :)

Overall:
NO REGRETS

I find the amount limiting but I don't think that it will be a problem since it will be mainly for personal use. Using the palette is hygenic for I would need to use a brush or a cotton swab. Such a great practice for me especially when I do pursue my dreams of becoming a professional make-up artist.

With these swatches, I agree that the lip colors are indeed pigmented. And that makes this purchase worthwhile. :)

So, will purchase again? Definitely! If nobody sells this in my country I'll definitely bear the waiting (coz our PO is so slow) and purchase through Coastalscents. :)... and maybe get me the complete collection of their gel liners. lol!

Eye Poxy Primer by CoastalScents

I can't stress enough how crazy I am about Primers for my eyes and face. They truly changed my makeup life. Primers are great and a must-have for oily skin like me. If there is a primer out there, I must try it!

Eye makeup application for me is like a labor of love. You put time and effort in applying it. Deciding the color combination are a task especially if you've been doing it everyday like i do. So when my eyemakeup creases on me, i get so frustrated. That is why i consider an eye primer a very important tool in achieving my mini work of art. And don't you just hate creasing?
Eye Poxy by Coastalscents have intrigued me for quite sometime so i jumped on the chance of buying one when my friend offered.

Here's what CS says about Eye-poxy,

Our Eye-Poxy™ Shadow Primer for eyes is applied in a thin layer across the lid, crease line and below the brow.

It is much creamier than our original primer allowing for ease of application. Your colors will adhere, blend together and also become more vibrant.

When using please only tap, tap your finger into the poxy, rub between 2 fingers to warm it, then apply. It is not necessary to remove it to get the results. If you choose to remove a small amount please rub between your fingers until smoothe then apply to the lid, this will allow your shadow to last until you are ready to remove it.

I live in the southern part of Florida, Hot, Humid, Sticky weather, I have oily skin also. My makeup remains in tact 12 to 15 hours (after that I remove it).

So far, The Eye Poxy passed my 5 criterias. My eye makeup lasted for about 9 hours (or more if i didn't remove it). It doesn't smell bad at all. Blending is okay but i could definitely work on my application technique. It is easy on the pocket because it its only $11.95, beats the price of other primers out there. Easy to use since it is contained in a jar with all the product very much accessible. Although i have to remember that i have to close it tightly to prevent it from drying. I also notice a little goopiness when i apply it, but maybe that's just me.

Overall, i am loving this product with every use.

I do recommend this to those who are just learning to apply eyeshadows and toying around with bright colors and don't want to shell out too much for a primer.

The verdict: 4.5 out of 5 Kikay Pinay Points

This definitely gets a seal of my approval.

This is my third time to order from Coastal Scents. I ordered of the EZ Pressing Medium formulated by CS and brushes. I practically purchased majority of the crease and blending brushes they have. This is not called Shen's Addiction for no reason, after all. :)

like Yummiebitez, i was disappointed when i received my EZ Pressing Medium soaking wet inside its ziplock. I was not impress with how they packed it but at least they did try to cover the opening of the bottle. And fortunately, my brushes didn't get wet. I emailed them about it and they responded immediately with apologies. I didn't really need to have it replaced. I'm quite ok with what i have because it didn't spill that much.

Here is my fabulous new brush collection. Ever since finding out what a crease and a blending brush can do, i just got hooked! I ordered different sizes and i'm so happy with them. I can't wait to use them. They are very soft, looking sturdy and doesn't look anything like my other crease and blending brushes i already have.

My fave out of the bunch would be my stiff blending brush that kind of reminds me of my MAC 217, but not really. i don't know but i can't wait to use them all!

if only i could find where i stashed my baby shampoo...

:) they are so soft!!
:| they are big
:| they kinda have that newly made scent (but it was tolerable for me, gone after i washed them)
:( they shed when i washed them (except for the blending brushes and liner brush :) ) and there were stains coming off from the black hair.

Pink Duo Fiber Powder Stippler: O.F. are nicely distributed, its soft and can rival my lumiere duo fiber optic brush. i love the look of it coz its pink. its long and has a good grip on it. its compact but i sheds a little while washing it. there were minor dents on the ferrule.

Pink Kabuki Brush: cute little princess! this pink kabuki is a true keeper for the kikay pinay! i love this brush! this was on the top of my list and i don't regret buyin this one. this is dyed by the way. though it sheds during washing, i didn't mind. i just hope that it won't shed anymore. i can't wait to bring this to my gimmicks. i'm a pink person and there is nothing like a pink kabuki for me.

Pink Blending Fluff Brush: I got two of these babies. boy, they are big! go super blending brushes! but oh so soft. :) i still don't know if they will work on my small eye work area but we'll see. :) i was just surprise how big they are. as you can see, MAC 217 nearly disappeared beside my CS blending brush. :) lol!

Pink Angled Blush Brush: I've been eyeing a nice angled brush since i spotted sculpt and shape in MAC. now, i have one! yahoo. :) although this baby had a little staining after washing.. i totally love this. i can't wait to practice contouring with this baby. :)

Pink Angled Taklon Liner Brush: another face. its not to small or big. its just the liner brush i'm looking for. i also love the handle coz it's not too thin. :) just the right liner for me. :)

soft brushes! reviews are right when they say these brushes are not only cheap but soft. great for starting my collection. although some of this brushes did shed and has black stain coming off of it while washing. all the brushes are not scratchy.. its well worth what you paid for.

Large paddle Face Brush (MAC 134 dupe): this brush is humongous!!! it was so big. totally great as face brush for bigger coverage that'll make application speedy gonzales. did shed a few hair and there was some stain coming off. its fine. :) the unusual SMELL came off as well. i suggest not to use too much shampoo but a lot conditioning too. also make sure you dry them well and arrange the hairs in place. its not as soft as i would like it to be but its okay. :)

Flawless Face Angle Chisel Powder Brush: Phew! that was a mouthful. :) this brush is great for contouring and as powder brush. looks like the one popularly sold but isn't. this baby is soft but tends to get tikwas after washing. or did i put too much shampoo on my solution? hmmm..

Chisel Detail Mini Brush: a totally small defining brush in my opinion. this will go well on applying on lower lash line or even drawings on the face. can't wait to use this. :)

Crescent Fluff Shadow Brush: a little bigger than expected but i like it nevertheless. this baby is so unique, you gotta have it in your stash. this fits well on my lids during testing but i have yet to use this on a eye make-up application.

FYI: COMPARING A CHARM BRUSH TO A COASTALSCENTS' PINK BRUSH

a lot of us has speculated whether the newly released pink brushes of CS is indeed the Charm Brushes sold by one of the Local MMU Seller here in PI. I only have my Charm Flattop Brush to compare.

Although they have clarified this, i am showing you that... NO, Charm is different from CS Pink Brushes.

1. Handles are different. Charm has patent finish, CS a Glossy finish
2. Ferrules are different. Charm has a shiny silver one, CS has a matte silver one.
3. Ferrule marks are different. Charm has a closer marks while CS has bigger gap, slanted (not all brushes are like this).

so what's the verdict?
I love all my brushes but i'm not thoroughly satisfied on how it was made. But for the prices i really can't complain. for all this brushes, i only paid for P2000 (give or take, no shipping).

will i buy more?
probably, but just the eye brushes since those are nicely made. the bigger brush? i will probably save for MAC or Suesh instead... :( but i'm okay with my angle brushes since those where my main buy and the blending brushes.

i will post more reviews along the way as i use my brushes.
