Spa Review: The Spa’s Athlete Body Cure Treatment | Win a spa day for you!

The Spa's Athlete Body Cure treatment was exactly what the doctored ordered after all the abuse I gave my body during my Hong Kong trip. I did so much walking (never took a cab even once), I walked in Mong Kok, Causeway Bay, Central and add to that, Ocean Park and Disneyland almost nonstop. I didn't realize how much walking I did until I got home and complained about muscle pain on my legs and on my feet, and also on my shoulders since I lug around quite a huge travel bag with me during my trip.

Join me as I enjoy this blissful treatment... and get a chance to win one for yourself, even! Read on!

I needed a massage and I needed it stat. And though I am not an athlete, I wanted something that would ease the pain I felt on my legs, thighs, soles, shoulders and arms... And boy, was the Athlete's Body Cure, the answer.

Entering the newly opened The Spa Wellness at the East wing of Shangri-la Plaza Mall already invited a relaxed demeanor in me. The dim lights, the soft music and the pleasant smiles that greeted me were so endearing. A spa should always have that feel. No excuses. :)

After all the preliminaries of confirming my booking, I was led inside Suite 2. A huge room with a massage bed, shower and jacuzzi. A sink with complete toiletries and chic decor gave the whole room a luxurious feel. I was eager to start at that point. What luxury!

Flor, the aesthetician, then started to cover the massage bed with plastic. A signal that my moor mud wrap is about to begin.

Did you know what moor mud helps with easing muscle tension and insomia? It's used constantly by celebrities to help with their skin and their stress. :)

Moor mud is this black paste that is made of almost 1,000 fermented and decomposed plants and herbs. It's odourless and upon application, feels silky against my skin. Flor started to massage it on my back, then the legs, thighs, arms, belly and chest. Moor Mud is also a good skin exfoliator. After application, I was enveloped with a cotton cloth and plastic to seal me in the goodness of the moor mud. It felt like it was easing away my body pain already. I fell asleep almost immediately after Flor left the room.

Next thing I knew, I was being woken up, instructed to take a shower. The second part of the Athlete's Body Cure treatment is about to start. With a new loofah, I started to scrub off the moor mud. Don't you just love warm showers? I do! It took awhile for me to shower; the moor mud dried pretty fast and took more than a few minutes to remove them. But I didn't mind. The combination of steam and shower was a delight to my senses.

But the shower had nothing on the deep tissue massage that therapist Jenny gave me. She pressed on the right points that took away the pain of the all the carrying and walking of the previous days. Instead of oil, Jenny used a micro-emulsion lotion for this massage that help me skin soft and supple until the next day, thanks to its moisturizing properties. She also had a tension-relief gel for muscle pain that she applied on parts of my body that I identified sore and aching. She could have left me there after the massage and I would have woken up the next day.

All good things do come to end. And if that ends with such a wonderful treatment and warm ginger tea only found at The Spa Wellness, I could gladly welcome the apocalypse. :)
