Kiehl's Yerba Maté Tea Gel-Cream (moisturize and indulge!)

I'm sure you're not surprise to hear that I am not very much a fan of moisturizers since in my opinion, it aggravates my oily skin more. My thought was that if my skin is oily, why use moistuirzers when its aim is to hydrate skin. More so, I always thought that dry skin are more in need if moisturizers. You couldn't hardly blame me since moisturizers are advertised for dry skin.

I thought wrong. Oily skin still needs hydration. and from what I learned in my years of going to and fro dermatologists, moisturizers helps calm oiliness. After washing, when the facial skin is at it driest it sends signals to produce oil to compensate for the lacking moisture. Hence, oily face in minutes after bathing. Applying moisturizers after wash or toning prevents your skin from producing oil, sending a signal that it isn't needed anymore. Cool, right?

So, lately, I've been induling my face with Kiehl's newest skin care line, Yerba-Mate Tea Gel Cream, an oil-free moisturizer to improve skin texture and radiance. And I must say that it has been improving indeed. :)

YERBA MATÉ Skin Care Line

YERBA MATÉ
A nutrient-packed botanical native to South America, contains practically all of the vitamins necessary to sustain life. Yerba Maté provides a unique anti-glycation* action on skin (higher than green tea), helping to reverse the breakdown of collagen to maintain a youthful appearance. Yerba Mate is also know to induce mental clarity, sustain energy levels, reduce fatigue, boost immune system defenses, provide anti-oxidant protection, help relieve allergies and aid in weight control.

KEY INGREDIENTS:

KOMBUTCHA TEA
Helps create a radiant complexion by reducing glycation and skin roughness. Also called “long-life” fungus – “Elixir de longue vie” – it is rich in oligosaccharides, glucuronic acid (detoxification), tannins, gallates derivatives (antioxidant) and various Vitamins (type B).

LEMON EXTRACT
High in natural fruit acids and have the highest percentage of Vitamin C of all the fruits. Its extracts from the fruit and essential oil (expressed from the peel) have astringent and antiseptic quality that freshens, stimulates and rejuvenates sluggish skin and adds lustrous shine to the hair. In aromatherapy, lemons inspire a cooling, refreshing and uplifting feeling.

HONEY
The nectar produced in flowers and then collected and stored by bees. It is composed of a variety of sugars, wax, and other substances, including citric, malic, formic, and lactic acids; beta carotene; enzymes; amino acids and vitamins. It is used as an emollient in skin care and creates a watertight film, allowing skin to rehydrate itself. Moisturizing, softening, sweet and fragrant.

THE LORE OF THE YERBA MATÉ TREE
• The yerba maté is a small tree native to the subtropical Atlantic forests of modern day Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina.
• The area’s indigenous peoples, the Guarani, have revered the tree for centuries, deriving from its leaves a tea referred to as “the drink of the gods.” It has traditionally been consumed to enhance health, vitality and longevity and to boost immune defenses.
• Today, millions of South Americans imbibe maté as a healthful alternative to coffee and a prime source of daily nutrition.

A WEALTH OF NUTRIENTS
In 1964, an investigation by the Pasteur Institute concluded, “it is difficult to find a plant in any area of the world equal to mate in nutritional value” and that contains “practically all of the vitamins necessary to sustain life.” Properties of the Yerba Maté herb:

• Contains 24 vitamins and minerals, 15 amino acids, and 11 antioxidants
• Traditionally known for its revitalizing properties
• Provides anti-oxidant protection
• Sustains energy levels and reduces fatigue
• Induces mental clarity and boosts immune defense

It's all not surprising that our favorite drinks are now popular skin care products such as milk, tea and coffee, given. Yerba-Mate Tea is also popular as a drink or to some, an elixir ,in South America, boasted as a drink to provide focus and alertness. Now, imagine your skin having a drink of Yerba-Mate Tea, boosting your skin with all these nutrients. It can only be said that it will lead to a clearer, more supple skin.

And it's oil-free! (yey for me!)

Much love,
Shen
