Shen Experiences Lightsheer Treatment by Flawless (Laser Hair Removal)

This summer there is nothing more unsightly than those unwanted hairs. Who would wanna pull off a Julia Roberts when you're having so much fun under the sun?

I wouldn't. So, when Flawless has given me a chance to try out their Laser Hair Removal, I jumped at the opportunity. Really, who would say no?

But of course, a part of me was still wary. I wasn't sure if there will be any complications or anything. So I did my research and made sure that I knew what I was getting into. I asked friends and looked through the internet about laser hair removal. So far, there wasn't anything alarming that scared me for the process. Rather, I got more and more excited.

Here is what I found out at the Flawless website regarding their Lightsheer Service/Treatment:

LIGHTSHEER

How does the LightSheer Diode Laser System work?
The system emits near-infrared laser light that is absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicle. The laser is pulsed, or turned on, for only a fraction of a second. The duration of each pulse is just long enough to damage the follicle, while the system's unique, patented contact-cooling hand piece, the ChillTip, helps protect the skin by conductive cooling during the laser energy delivery.

What advantage does the Lightsheer have over the laser hair removal systems?
The LightSheer Diode Laser System was designed from the ground up for laser hair removal, so it has the wavelength, fluence, pulse width, and active epidermal cooling system—the ChillTip ideally suited for laser hair removal.
LightSheer™ is rapid, dependable, and has a patented ChillTip that helps protect skin tissue.

Why should I use the Lightsheer Diode Laser System?
The LightSheer Diode Laser System's design provides for enhanced comfort during treatment, minimal risk of infection, speed and accuracy. Since the system uses a unique cooling handpiece, it minimizes skin irritation that other methods may create. Since it is non-invasive (no needles to penetrate the skin), the risk of introducing bacteria into the skin is reduced. Finally, the LightSheer Diode Laser is a precise instrument that can be adjusted to damage only the hair follicle while minimally affecting the surrounding skin.

Does the Lightsheer work on different skin colors?
The LightSheer diode laser system safely and effectively treats all skin types. For darker skin types and people with tans, appropriate fluences are generally lower and appropriate pulse widths are generally longer to prevent damage to the epidermis. Using the appropriate treatment parameters, however, people with all skin types can benefit from laser hair removal with the LightSheer.

What is important about the 3 phases of hair growth?
There are two resting phases and one growing phase. Only hair in the growing phase is effectively targeted by any laser system. Hair that is in the regression or resting phases will not be affected. At any one time only 50 to 75% of your hair is in the growing phase which is the major reason that multiple treatments are required.
How does the laser work?
The laser light targets pigment (melanin) in the hair shaft. The melanin absorbs laser light and generates heat which damages hair follicles. Melanin in the surrounding skin can also absorb laser energy. Thus there is a balance between burning the hair follicle vs. the skin. People with a lot of expressed melanin (tanned or naturally dark) will absorb laser light, therefore heat, in the skin, which increases skin burning.
Do females who have excess patches of hair on their faces, acne and irregular periods, need a hormonal evaluation prior to treatment?
Yes, they may have an underlying hormonal problem that needs to be evaluated.

What pre-treatment is required?
- Do not tan for 3 to 4 weeks prior to the procedure.
- Stop using self-tanning products on treated areas one week prior.
- Do not wear make-up, lotion, or deodorant over area to be treated on the day of treatment.
- Prior to applying a topical anesthetic, prep the skin with rubbing alcohol.
- Shave the skin to be treated the same day as your appointment.
- Do not pluck, wax, or tweeze the area for at least four weeks prior.
- If prescribed for skin lightening, apply hydroquinone every evening for one month prior to treatments.
- Wear sunscreen of at least SPF 30 or greater every day.
What post-treatment is required?
- Keep the area clean and moist, applying aloe vera as needed.
- Apply 1% hydrocortisone cream twice daily for 48 hours.
- Wear sunscreen of at least SPF 30 or greater every day.

Is the procedure painful?
In a scale of one to ten, most patient rate them a 3 or 4. Some patient feels a small rubber band snapping on skin. Each person’s tolerance is different and some may feel nothing at all.
For sensitive skin, topical anesthetic may be used to numb the area.

How soon will the hair fall out?
Some hair will extrude immediately. Hairs will continue to shed up to three weeks.

Are the results permanent?
The LightSheer laser has been cleared by the FDA for hair removal and permanent hair reduction on all skin types.

Why do results vary?
No two people are alike as to hair and skin color. Treatment is individualized from patient to patient.

How often should treatment be done?
The Lightsheer works by disrupting the hair on its growing phase at the time of treatment. Since hair enters the growing phase at different time, treatments are usually given at an interval of 4-6 weeks.

What percentage of hair will be reduced permanently?
Typically 60 to 95% of the hair can be reduced permanently. There is nothing available that will prevent new hair from growing in the future.
What are the possible complications?
- Burning of the skin
- Blistering of the skin
- Scabbing of the skin
- Hypopigmentation (lightening) of the skin
- Hyperpigmentation (darkening) of the skin
- Scarring
- Infections of the skin (Unlikely)

I decided then that my underarm hair will be the one who'll experience the Lightsheer treatment.

Upon entering the treatment room, I was pleased to learn that a certified dermatologist will be conducting the treatment. I was asked to disrobe and an assistant proceeded to shave off my underarm hair (eww!). Then the doctor came in and I was asked to wear this sunglasses that I couldn't see through (you must have this to avoid sight problems). afterwards, a gel substance ws applied to my underarms. Then, the treatment started. I felt like my underarm was being punched by many tiny but very very very strong hands. It really wasn't that prickly. It just felt like Tinkerbell was boxing my underarm. There was also the burnt smell which only means that the roots were fried crispy already. This means it's working. The machine is able to tell how much roots was lasered off.

In less than 5 minutes, the treatment was done. I felt like my underarms was going to get bruised but it didn't. It ws just the after effects of the treatment. The next day, it was already gone. Within the first week, there were bits of dark spots but it wasn't really scars but more like burnt hair. After a week, I noticed how slow my underarm hair was growing compared to shaving and waxing.

I'm almost 3 weeks in from my first treatment and I don't feel anything at all. My underarm felt normal as if nothing has been done to it. Except that I do have less hair growing and if there is, it's so easy take of. It was really a blessing I got this treatment from Flawless.

I've always been ashamed of my underarm. I made a few mistakes when I was young that I ended up regretting now I'm an adult. I'm glad that there are treatments like this that can help me take back the confidence that was lost in me. I know I'm not the only one here suffering from underarm shame. Well, we don't have to suffer longer.

So, it is worth it? YES! It really is. Considering that I only had one Lightsheer treatment, I already saw dramatic changes. You can't imagine how easier my life has become now that I can wear sleeveless and not have to result to shaving at the last minute. There was no lingering side effects. My underarm never felt this smooth and soft. The BF noticed and he was just pleased about it. :) He even said, I now look more like a baby. :) Hahahaha!

Now I can't wait to have my second laser hair removal. After underarm, my legs would be the next one to receive Lightsheer treatment.

No more dyahe (shameful) moments because well, I'm flawless! Lol!

I had the Lightsheer treatment done at Flawless Megamall. Each treatment cost Php3,500.00. For I think 23,500 (correct me if I'm wrong), you'll get a lifetime hair removal limited only to one one section of the body. So if you want underarm lifetime hair removal, this will only cost Php23,500.00. This is actually very cheap considering it's lifetime. :)

much love,
Shen
